A tragic retirement... CPMA duel demo (33 comments)

after approximately a year and a half of terrified terrifire being unavailable to duel (not to be confused with duel dodging, of course), two TITANS duke it out on cpm22

with 3 minutes remaining (and conveniently after his loss was sealed) terifire begins to spam a suicide bind instead of the pause bind due to a "technical difficulty," and demands a regame. due to some miscommunication, the high ping hero did not give the regame he demanded immediately, and was banned from pickups for 24 hrs


only two months later the heroic highpinger was permanently banned with no reason given. in accordance with longstanding weirdo admin CPM tradition, a couple more of the most active players in the game were also permanently banned without warning. PS #playmorepromode

while freeing up some space on my storage hard drive, i figured this demo had to be archived, as it was one of my last games before fully retiring.

while it might not look like much, this demo holds a lot of sentimental value to me. the little man vs the tyrantical admin. the highpinger vs the lowpinger. the brain vs the aim. the courageous vs the terrified. david vs goliath..

it is with great sadness that i must announce my retirement from CPMA. it's almost exactly 10 years since i started this journey. it's been a long road. a lot of sweat, blood, and tears. i couldn'tve done it without you all.

but this isn't the end of my journey. my development as a pro gamer does not end here. with diabotical right around the corner... perhaps there will be another opportunity to shine, and another mountain to climb. and i'll do it with a grin, as always...

Lately people have been wondering what professional gamer VORPAL has been up to. Seeing as he was not able to attend Dreamhack or QuakeCon, some have been beginning to wonder if he has retired from E-sports. However, we at TEAM VORPAL have decided to unveil what Michael 'VORPAL' Hall has been working on for the last few months.

VORPAL's brief hiatus from E-sports was the result of a project in regards to gamer fashion. VORPAL describes his project as "an attempt to make socially inept nerds with disproportionate facial features appear somewhat less disgusting to the general public."

A STUDY CONDUCTED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA AMONG 10 MALE GAMERS SHOWS A CORRELATION BETWEEN ANGER AND MALE PATTERN BALDNESS. THE SUBJECTS WERE EXPOSED TO 10 MINUTE DUELS WITH CURRENT QUAKE 3 CPMA NORTH AMERICAN CHAMPION MICHAEL 'VORPAL' HALL. EIGHT OF THE TEN SUBJECTS DEMONSTRATED INTENSE FITS OF ANGER WHILE PLAYING. In this demo, the Underdog Demul1ty takes on the reigning Warsow champion Sander 'Vo0' Kasjaager on Vo0's favorite map, wdm6. In what many consider to be the match that ended Vo0's career in Warsow, demul1ty takes a surprisingly one sided duel versus the Dutch pro gamer. We also get shades of when Johnathan 'Fatal1ty' Wendel took home a one sided victory in the 2005 CPL Painkiller Final, where Vo0 also happened to throw a chair in a fit of anger.

I'm going to lay it out: it is hard being a professional gamer. Often I will find myself in situations where fat disgusting nerds with no talent get angry at me for just trying to enjoy a fun game. Although we are both competing, there shouldn't be any excuse to not have fun. However, I am often bombarded with insults questioning my sexuality, intellectual capability, and physical fitness, despite proving time and time again that I am not flawed in any of those fields of character. Is it because these people are jealous of my natural intelligence that G-d has blessed me with? Or are they simply just upset because of losing? I would expect that people have learned by now that the odds of winning against me are very slim, and that you shouldn't get your hopes up when you are trying duel the Champion. Below is an excerpt from a very distraught quake player who goes by the pseudonym vamp1re.

i suppose vo0 cannot handle being owned on cpm22?


why is it every time i try to enjoy myself a fun duel in cpm, someone has to ruin it by rage quitting? i understand that vo0 has a bit of a temper (ie: throwing chairs at a painkiller lan), but is there really any need to rage quit?

after being raped on 3a, devious thought it would be a great idea to challenge the champion to a game of aerowalk. however this proves to be a waste of time for the champion, as we can see in this very one sided duel.

oh that devious, if only he played maps other than 3a (which he still loses on), perhaps then he would be somewhere close to as good as i am.

vorpal announces his retirement after conquering all the competition of which north american cpm has to offer. in this duel we get a glimpse at how wits overcome raw experience, and the psyche of a player with an ego too large for him to back up. apparently, losing to someone with 1/8'th the play time he has was just too much for vamp1re! this was also vorpal's first match in cpm after two months of quake world.


vorpal retires from cpm as the champion of north american cpm 9/27/08.
