Calling all Quake moviemakers (77 comments)
Posted by dfb @ 05:00 CST, 5 December 2009 - iMsg
Just a couple of days ago we announced the AMD Phenom II Minimovie contest over at TEK9 where you have the chance to win a new AMD Phenom II processor if you place in the top five.

With a couple of days of registration behind us we already have 50+ entries but sadly enough no Quake moviemakers have entered the contest. That is why we are now calling all Quake moviemakers to show us what they got and produce a minimovie of Quake III, Quake 4 or Quake Live.

I for one am an avid Quake Live fan and would love to see some Quake Live minimovies made, looking back at the previous contest we did we also saw some nice Quake Live movies made such as the movie Zero

Good luck to all those who enter!

ESWC RETURNS (206 comments)
Posted by dfb @ 05:36 CST, 24 November 2009 - iMsg
Games-Services, the original company behind the ESWC, filled for bankruptcy several months ago. In the aftermath of this, Stéphane Cosse, the head of DIP Communication and DIP Organisation (An event organiser), has purchased the rights to the ESWC brand, trademark and tournament management system for €50,000 and cyberleagues.fr for €1,500.

The ESWC has now unveiled their plans for the summer of 2010 with a new $200,000 dollar e-Sports event taking place in Disneyland Paris from June 30 to July 4, 2010.

However, according to SK-gaming Cosse was a lead figure in Adéclik who ran a $50,000 event called ClickArena back in 2003 where in similar circumstances to the CyberXGames the prize money turned out to be a hoax and no team received a penny. Perhaps in light of this the ESWC has made a further announcement:
"in order to prevent more harm and damage to the ESWC image and to maintain coherent the ESWC project and spirit, DIP-Organisation is studying the possibilities to found a way to compensate the last ESWC champions."

Belgium Steven "dfb" Leunens, manager of TEK9, takes a look at the credit crunch and shares his opinion on how it affects eSports. A bold statement that perhaps not everything about it is bad is the central theme of the article. It explores the downfall of brands such as the ESWC and MYM and how we can all recover from this.

Posted by dfb @ 14:23 CDT, 8 June 2008 - iMsg
Scheduled: 02:00 CDT, 25 July 2008 to 14:00 CDT, 25 July 2008
Schedule: Passed

Belgium Belgian based gaming organisation Gamevibes and Belgian gaming team LowLandLions announce the qualifications for the Belgian eswc ESWC delegation.

The two games that will be played happen to be the two games that kicked off professional gaming for most people: cs Counter-strike 1.6 and Quake 3 Quake3. 24 teams and 32 players will have the chance to qualify for the prestigious LAN finals at the Antwerp E-sports Festival on the 25th of July . The Antwerp eSports Festival, the setting for the Belgian qualifier, is the new 50,000 € tournament organized by Gamevibes in the Hilton in Antwerp.
The online qualifiers will be played on the 21st and 28th of June. The best four counter-strike 1.6 teams and the best four Quake3 players will then battle it out at the AEF in hopes of defending the Belgian colours in San Jose, California. This is where the ESWC grand finals will be played this year, a major change from previous years as the finals were always in France.

Registering for the qualifiers has never been easier. All you need is a Gamevibes ID which grants you access to the AEF and TEK9 website and ultimately ESWC glory! Head on down to www.tek-9.org/eswc and get yourself registered!
