that site is slowly but surely turning into a fanboi battlefield. relax. let's take a look into the future.

Q4 is not going anywhere anyway. the hype is over, the game is not that "new" anymore. it's already 1 year old and the amount of newbies in the scene is close to 0.
that's not gonna get better because UT2k7 is coming and it has what beginners need. newbie-friendly mods like onslaught and instagib. that's something the deadzone mode already failed to achieve.
no new maps and no news about the next patch on the horizon. not even enough tournaments left this year for the horde of pros.

Q3 suffers from similar problems at the moment. no newbies, only people coming from other deathmatch games or other quake titles. however, some mappers are active, some tournaments for 2007 already confirmed. and of course, the technical advance argument, Q3 is ready for competition and Q4 is not. on the other hand, if Joe Common sees a Q4 game at the WCG and wants to play it, he can at least buy it. that's a major plus for Q4.

but what is Joe Common going to do then? will he find out that he needs IRC to find people who share the same idea, will he find out how to find those people on IRC, will he convince these people to play with him instead of sitting around on a website called ESR and flaming other players playing a different game?
I bet Joe Common won't even come that far. he will already fail looking for all the files he needs to play a Q4 game...

so, there is one thing which both games have in common - the train has left already. .

now you're asking yourself why I'm so negative about two games I actually like the most!? it's to calm you guys down.
you expect too much. Quake is a fun game to play, but it's not the future of deathmatch. and it's no player's fault.
so, enjoy whatever Quake you like and stop bitching on people who actually do the same.

we're all in the same boat.
