I've been using cheap in-ears until now, but lately I've been toying with the idea to get a good headset. What are your thoughts on this? Thinking of Quake Live, are normal headphones better than in-ears? Does quality really make any difference concerning Quake Live? I am a noob on this matter (naively using old, cheap in-ears for many years), so I'd be happy to have these questions answered. Also, if you have recommendations for a good headset (I thought 'Hell, if I buy new headphones, why not a headset!?'), please let me know.

Hyperx Cloud (version 1) is a very decent headset and alot of people like it. But usually ppl will tell you to get that Superluxx bullshit and a crappy microphone which in fact sounds like shit if you dont have a 60�+ soundcard.

But In-Ears are usually also pretty good choices for gaming, I also used to like mine every now and then, they spot targets really well. Seen people like Strenx and others playing with In Ears only at times too.

I have these, but a version from 10 years ago. They are pretty good - but according to recent reviews they dont make them like they used to, apparently they are way worse nowadays. So if you read glowing reviews from back in the day - its not the same anymore.

I have one over ear & on ear from AKG, they are very diff in base & resolution.

The other one is a DJ headphone on ear ...

AKG K618DJ, the Sennheiser ones for Studio use chould be better.

Honestly, I've used cheap ass on-ear headphones, and they worked just fine for QL. You are fine as long as they're stereo headphones and are comfortable, convenient, and durable.

About three years ago, my old $170 DT-990's cable broke after only a year. I stole my mom's $20 Sony MDR-ZX300s, and I still use them to this day, and they have been through far more abuse than my DT-990s, because their short ass cable snags on everything.

Yes he asked for gaming headphones, and i just say, don't buy bass DJ headphones, my AKG K272 are high resolution and you can hear footsteps and shit around the corner very clear.

For QL I would say a semi-decent pair of in ears like some �30 sennheiser cx300 or something is perfectly fine. You don't need expensive headphones for QL. The sound engine is ancient and won't utilize anything more.

If you need some headphones for music then you need to choose between open or closed dependent on where you'll be listening. of course you could use these for Quake but Quake isnt gonna sound any better with �300 studio headphones and an amplifier.

depends on the music choice, and if the headphones are for *dry* *deepblack* playblack, i know the Bayerdynamic DT ones & my AKG is *dry* too.

The others are cheap ones from Sony & Ars Technica, look for some Sony MDR-ZX300s in a hifi store to test hearings.

looking the same means nothing, there are different magnets, different power input, the curve for the rear of the driver audio to bounce back and give you sub bass

cut off the jack and connect them to a amp with speaker wire, and they can really handle 200watts before they burn

look into either pair of sony and all the comments will praise them over beat by dre and most other headphones under �300

This will be the next thing i would buy ...

I can only speak for my headphones, to rely on reviews on the internet is a risky, they have to earn money :D

One is dry and sounds deep, the other one is a DJ warm but not quite so high on resolution.

Both good for Rock & Metal

AKG K272HD dry, deep,closed & clear base good for music & gaming too, high resolution
AKG K618DJ warm,deep,closed base not good for gaming and wearing for a long time

headphone amp`s are only needed if you are going to use them in a club, otherwise the best of the best pro dj headphones are still abit wack for isolation

and normally 100% useless at a festival where you have a few 12" 2 feet away you use for monitors

It is simply a matter of Ohm's law

U : R x I the ohm's triangle :D (headphones use not DC stable current it is a waveform)

If you use higher Ohm Headphones, you will need more juice to power them !

48Ohm are less loud then power efficiant 32Ohm Headphones on a Motherboard without any heaphone amp on it.

An USB Headphone Amp could do the trick for older Motherboards.

Nowdays, Mainboards like mine have an Amp on it sitting there ...

Waisting money on a 250Ohm Headphone without Amp is less efficiant.

The recommanded Audio-Technica ATH-AD500X had 48Ohms, so they need some power ...

it depends, if you have a gaming monitor, then it will probably have a headphone socket to go with the built in porn speakers

so you soundcard amp`s + monitors amp`s, is normally loud enough for any everyday headphones

you will probably have to buy a good cable to go from sound card to monitor, the cable you get with your monitor is probably 2mm thick and will distort with ease
