even if QL has nothing to do with QLranks and ELO, it has still a huge impact on how players behave.
if someone sees how little his ELO (i like to compare it to a penis) is compared to other ELOs (penises), a lot of people who define theirselfes through that number wont take any game against anyone.
i dont really know how it is in duel (since i dont play that gametype), but in CA people try so desperately to have the bigger advantage over the the other team (due to /callvote shuffle as long as they have the 2300 ELO guy on their team or even the other way around, denying one shuffle before the game starts because they already have that guy in their team).
and when one team gets raped then one after another will leave the game .. end.
unfortunately playing quake has become pretty sad i have to say and i can totally understand why so few are still playing it.

Im aware of this, but while my elo(and really my skills) dropped hugely due to not playing for a long time, coming back and losing games, tier wise i am still stuck at where i used to be. I should probably play more games to get it back in order but can't spend half a day on that at the moment.

which mode you play?

Working pretty good for me in CA and Duels. I am pretty noobish - 1600 CA elo and 1150 Duel elo.

I got 1100 ca elo atm(used to be about 1500-1600) and god knows what about the others really. I am rusty as fu*k. Too much console games.

Please, enlighten us with your well-considered opinions

1. Too hard in terms of gameplay and userbase (mainly stuff such as strafing is difficult when starting out and has a huge impact on your skill if you don't use it
2. Graphics and the theme of the game sucks (An example of good themed game in a futuristic setting is deus-ex)
3 10+ years old
4. No class, levels, weapon upgrades etc. Nothing for the noobs to accomplish so they think this is all that the game has to offer where as the fun really starts when you start to master certain mechanics of the game. There's a reason cod got so popular so fast besides being one of the first fps to be set in modern times

N.o. 4 cannot and will never be fixed because it will ruin what makes quake, quake. Plus Valve's huge monopoly in the pc market and it's over-obsessed fan base helps too.

I don't like this game much. I much prefer Klotski and Mahjong for adrenaline rush.
