Not really seeing what the big deal is if he is using a trackball for aiming (aside from the obvious differences between a mouse and a trackball).

If he is getting true analog movement out of that joystick for his movement then it could give him pretty good control over direction with a sacrifice of speed. People used joysticks this way back in Q2 iirc.

seeing people playing with a trackball is a big deal in itself. seeing them doing it combined with a joystick, +lefty +odd wide setup even more so.
