I totally understand your point. But I want to be honest. There is no 3rd party anti cheat program out there, which has Linux or Mac support. Actually there are hardly first person shooters at all which are popular and run with Linux.
Even ESL Wire which cost them several 100.000 € only runs with Windows.
Probably 1 % of QL players use Linux. Therefor it's not worth the effort to completly recode the program for Linux.
I am afraid all Linux users have to wait for a solution from ID.

quake games always ran natively on linux, developing an anti cheat for quakelive should take that into consideration.

It's not over for you. If you really love the game, you will find a way to play. Even if that means you have to install Windows. You can make a double boot system for example.
When ID makes that anti cheat it will be for all platforms. But as we all know that won't happen in the nearer future.
Meanwhile we have to stay with tzac which only support Windows by now.

why are you trying to turn this into a win vs linux discussion, i got my reasons. you have to realize that some people have different needs than you may have, this will lead to nowhere.

for example, i need an os with security in mind, not added as something optional later. i don't want firewalls or anti viruses do what should've never been an issue in the first place.
last week i installed fedora with luks and selinux on a netbook, i couldn't have done something similar so easily with win7.

Just for the reference, there was a poll on ETQW community forum where 21% of users voted they play from Linux. Ofc you can't know actual numbers for QL, however it's definitely considerable amount.

Many people stick to QL mainly because they use Linux as well as many switched to Linux knowing they won't play anything besides QL thus don't need Windows. So it's very natural for this kind of game to have high amount of Linux players.

As its seperate to QuakeLive and has to be ran by the user i'm pretty sure we'll know! The only downside is this will be used for officials only as you can't really enforce it in pickups and publics so there will still be plenty of online heroes, just not so much claiming the fame in leagues :-)

Also photoshop seems to be quite expesive and not many people are willing to pay that amount for a single program, apart from professional designers.

Typical game of my 4v4 clan: 1 guy on a Mac, 2 on Linux, 1 on Windows. Often changes to 1/1/2, but I don't think we've played any official HoQ/ESL game with at least 3 people on Windows.

Oh, and id staff confirmed that there's around twice as many people playing on a Mac than the number of Linux players. Hard to tell what distribution it is in the more competitive circles, but assuming pub population projects well on that, maybe Mac should be first to add?

ztac uses silent detection also, it doesn't ban instantly but it's so much better for competition, especially because it's pretty much impossible to play while banned / do another account

1- right now it seems id software doesnt give a rat's ass about this (or they come off looking like it because of their "hush hush" style of communication and closed door policy) so it seems we are on our own, now if we had other options then this guy stepping up your point would be 100% valid and we would be fools not to choose the cleaner party, but so far its just this guy

2- coming to 2nd point, this comes down to the lesser of 2 evils. Right now anyone who can use google can just download a cheat and it will work 100% in qlive, ANY cheat will do private or public. So even IF this guy ends up delivering under counter cheats that will bypass his own anti-cheat, ppl will have to pay for it and this will limit the amount of cheaters atleast to some extend (less cheaters competing in leagues, cause this anti cheat will probably be only enforced on them, it will be client side i think?)

3- with those csi guys it will still be possible to bust these remaining, paying cheaters, no anti cheat is ever 100% cheat proof so I doubt they are going anywhere.

4- Until an alternative party steps in or id software actually stops their "cut cost" only policy regarding qlive and actually pours some money for an anti cheat, this solution will probably be better then nothing, even if the guy is dirty after all, hence the lesser of 2 evils argument again.
