yeah I'm kinda leaning towards Sennheiser tbh. I have the PC160's atm but I want some that cover my ears. Won't be using them at LAN so sound isolation is not an issue

There's a thread on that head-fi website which has a nice breakdown of head phones that are recommended by users of the site.

Then you just need to pick open/closed, in-ear/on-ear/over-ear, amp/no-amp.

Closed have closed backs (shock) that help with noise isolation.
Open have open backs that don't provide any and allow sound to come out of them easily (so people can hear what you do at high volumes).

The 555's a tried on weren't as comfortable for me just bare in mind I was in a shop and I presume they'd been out for a long time!

Buy something from Denon, but u have to know that closed headphones have weaker acoustic then open ones.U can go through very cheap with AKG k701 for around 250e on ebay.de but these kind of headphones are not meant to just plug in ur pc it would be retarded.U need some good amp. for that to get the sound u desire...preferably some tube amplifer! :)

I've got them un-amped, and they're still very good. I plan on getting an amp eventually but at the moment I'm of the same opinion as you :D

Those specs mean nothing btw. 770 is also rated 5hz but its way bassier than those Sonys.

have you tried them? (MDR XD400 that is, there's also XD300 which cost about half of the 400s)
i think for ~70€ they have the best sound you can get in that segment (i bought mine about 3 years ago and "only" paid 55€)
they look ridiculous but are quite nice to wear for several hours because they're light and don't really have any pressure points (i have quite big ears and most others were a pain in the ass to wear for more than half an hour or so)

I have xb 700 and they are bassier than xd400. I only tried xd400 in store.

770 are even bassier than xb 700.
