I havent made a study about it, but i'm quite sure there are mice that use scaling to achieve more "dpi", so the sensor doesnt see that amount of dots per inch in the surface, but its calculated. No idea if razer is guilty of this kind of misleading marketing, but i still highly doubt this 5600dpi is native.

It remains useless anyways because a human hand cant move in steps of 0,0001785 inch (1/5600). Next to that, even in an extreme (useless) case of 2048 pixels wide view, fov 90 and mouse sens of 5cm/360 (approx 2inches), still only ~4000 dpi can be transferred ingame with perfect 1:1 dot/pixel mapping.
2048*4= 8192 / 2= 4096)

I guess a 1600dpi mouse is precise enough for any human. Keep in mind the popular intellieye mice work at only 400dpi (okay, they're mostly low sens players but still), so a mouse four times as precise should do the trick, wouldnt it?

So brands should really quit using "more dpi" as selling point. Its just complete bullshit. But the sad thing is, people buy it, so they keep going on!

You should probably get the clue now.

Logitech is using a very similar (or might be the same) sensor on the G9x and have chosen 5000 DPI for theirs. The difference in DPI can primarily be achieved in two ways, Razer either makes the lence focus on a slightly narrower area or have a different version of the sensor and accompanying hardware. The interresting part of the sensor is not the DPI but that both logitech and razer claim up to 3.81m/s for a laser sensor. Will be interresting to see how the sensor works across a range of mousepads in real world conditions and if it will ever be implemented in somewhat sensibly priced mice.

The Mamba has a Philips twin-eye sensor (like the Lachesis) whereas the G9x seems to have a image correlation sensor, most likely from Avago (cause of NDA they won't tell me which sensor it is exactly).

btw, you can turn correction/prediction on/off with the G9x

Sure

First the ingame part:
We made it a standard to define ingame mouse sensitivity per 360 degree turn (horizontal). What you see on your screen, with FOV (field of view) 90 (degrees) is 1/4 of a whole turn (360/90=4).
The resolution you choose for rendering determines how many pixels wide a fov90 is, so you can calculate how many pixels a whole turn is (4 times the horizontal resolution).

Now the mouse part:
If you move your mouse just enough to have it detect this, then it will signal 1 step to the computer. So if you move it one dot to the right, it will send +1 on x-axis (horizontal). A mouse that can detect more dots per inch, will send more steps to the computer (hence the result of a higher sens ingame - you need less inches to do a 360 degree turn).

In a perfect situation with a 1:1 dot/pixel ratio, a one dot mouse movement = 1 pixel movement on screen. But this is hard to get, since software uses (bad) scalers and acceleration algoritmes. Anyways, let use this to determine what might possibly still be usefull.

So now, if you know two of these three:
a) mouse resolution (dots per inch)
b) fov and ingame resolution (horizontal pixels)
c) preferred sensitivty (inches or cm's needed for 360 turn)

You can calculate the remaining!
And I should be a teacher in match lol!

My 'golden sens'... [+] for the guy that can figure out the DPI / horizontal resolution / fov / cm360 that goes with that 'golden sens' =)

(Not my actually sensitivity, just to figure out the 'golden ratio' for those settings.)

Hope I didn't make any mistakes with this:

(100/50)*8 = 16 // 50 DPI (800/50 = 16)
(100/50)*4 = 8 // 100 DPI (400/50 = 8)
(100/50)*2 = 4 // 200 DPI (200/50 = 4)
(100/50) = 2 // 400 DPI ( So 2 is the sensitivity to use for 50cm/360 sens assuming default windows settings/no accel for 400 DPI.)
(100/50)/2 = 1 // 800 DPI (50/50 = 1)
(100/50)/4 = 0.5 // 1600 DPI (25/50 = 0.5)
(100/50)/5 = 0.4 // 2000 DPI (20/50 = 0.4)

(100/50)/4.4 = 0.45 // 1800 DPI (22.5/50 = 0.45)
(100/50)/2.2 = 0.9 // 900 DPI (45/50 = 0.9)
(100/50)/1.1 = 1.8 // 450 DPI (90/50 = 1.8)

EDIT: this has worked for me for Quake engine games... not sure about the unreal engine =)

Oh why yes, let's buy a razer mouse. The last one only scraped the mousepad with its bottom, had to have it's firmware updated, scroll wheel didn't work correctly and mouse1 is breaking down after 1 year of use. Not like it cost much or anything, ffs.

Weights only 129g, that's even less than DA lol(though with the cable it would be the same).
If the perfomance is really that what they write i hardly believe that there will be any more infared mice from razer, since low max speed has been the only important laser disadvantage.

DeathAdder really weighs 107gr... the advertisement weight in Razer page must be with cable included or maybe an error.

130gr is 2 much for me. I was used 2 mouses about 80 - 90gr , and DeathAdder (with 107gr) +- 20gr more than the weight that I was used 2, feels like a brick 2 me... I dont want 2 think in a mouse with other +20gr...

108gr maybe is ok but with 130gr really is a brick for me.

the 1000hz/1ms stuff is no different than any other mouse at 1000hz usb. this is not an improvement over anything that's been out already. they didn't change their wireless tech - they simply overclocked the usb port.

which is exactly what my salmosa box reads aswell. the wire can be plugged/unplugged maybe that's where the confusion stems from?

can you explain to me in technical terms how overclocking the usb port doesn't mean changing the polling rate? maybe i'm really misunderstanding something here.

edit: you guys do remember that we can overclock usb ports and change the "response rate" for everything you can hook up to an usb port right? we can do this even to a mouse like the ms3.0 which was never intended to run at those speeds. why wouldn't i be able to do this to something wifi related?

actually its really simple, the route from mouse to PC is something like this:

mouse < - - - - > usb-reciever/usb-port<-------->motherboard/chipset

so if you would manually "oc" your port with a regular wireless mouse, it can only communicate @1000hz with the reciever, but the connection as a whole is still limited due to the wireless part

you can easily check at which frequency your mouse operates with programs like "mouserate" or "dx_mouse_timer_dialog"

No... you simply cant have 1000hz polling by just oc'en the port! that was my point! The usb-reciever/port would not have any data from the mouse to offer in between several pollings. So they couldnt sell it as having 1000hz/1ms wireless if it wasnt true

actually i havent looked into it (i'm a lefty - mouse is already not suited)
but I read there's a movie on razers website with razerguy explaining the wireless part

so yes, I think so. But as with all theoretical tech, just wait and see, then believe

It is1000hz wireless.. wtf are you talking about? Thats the whole point of the mouse, it does everything and more that a normal DA would.

Oh yea, and minus the wire.

Its a badass peice of technology, however they neglect to mention that if you prefer; you can remove the battery lowering the weight to 108 grams (exactly that of a da) and plug the braided wire into the mouse and it will perform exactly like da, plus all the advantages and features of the mamba.

It's definitely a ground breaking product that will raise the bar for gaming mice across the board if it can deliver on what it says it can. Guess we'll know more come the reviews.

Depends on what game and how big of a monitor you use. Seems monitors gamers use are getting bigger and bigger these days which is where a higher dpi can be discerned. The real tech is just the fact it's wireless gaming with wired performance. No other mouse can really say that right now, so that's impressive enough for me. The only downside is the price. I'm guessing it'll go down though after launch. I think only a select few are willing to pay that much especially in this economy.

DAMN IT, razer is the only company that can still fool me about mouse technology. Even though I know all the babble about 5600dpi is horse shit, If the 1ms response time wireless is the real deal they've sold it to me. I've always wanted a wireless mouse but it's never been a plausible option. The shape is minted too, I love how they've officially adopted the ie 3.0 style right handedness on some of their mice. DAMN IT.

Yeah, I know. Last MX518 I bought was £25 I think, and that was a year or two back now. But I think the G9 and Lachesis go for £40-£50, so if this actually retailed for £100 it would be twice those. For many of us here it would be more like 4+ times as expensive. As it is I don't know what it'll retail at here anyway, but if it's costing 130 for both Europe and the US in their respective currencies, it's bound to sell for at least £80, and I can very much imagine £100.

If you use a horizontal resolution of 2000, and your mouse is capable of 5600dpi, this means you can make almost 3 full rotations with an inch of mouse mat and still be able to hit every pixel. But nobody uses that high of a sensitivity, nor would it be physically possible for a member of the human species to be accurate with that high of a sensitivity. Therefore DPI IS horse shit after a certain point. For most of us humans that point would be approximately 1600 DPI. For most of us even that is over doing it. I turn my death adder down to 450dpi for example, because it's simply enough.

Maybe you should rethink your views on mousing technology and realize 99% of the shit they throw out at you is marketing. The wmo/ie3.0/mx300 are still the 3 best mice ever released performance/durability wise. Maybe they don't have the fancy marketing numbers tacked on but you pump them up to 500hz and they will shit on everything.

You are aware that you don't see 360 degrees on your monitor? To have 2000 pixels for 360 degree turn you need to play at aprox 640x480 with fov 120. A lot of the newer games default to fov 65 and are played at res up to 1920 horizontally. Very few monitors have usable horizontal resolution above 1920 (60hz on crt does not fall under usable). With that resolution and fov 65 you need aprox 1.9"/360 or lower sens for pixel perfect accuracy. The DPI will only be usefull for a tiny part of the gaming population, however you can always turn it down to suit your needs so nothing negative about it IMO. It gives the gamer a choice.

If you are using 110 fov and 1920 horizontal resolution, 360 degrees of rotation would equal approximately 6300 pixels. This means you could use a sense just over 1in/360 and still hit every pixel in the rotation. My initial post's calculations neglected fov and used convenient numbers (2000 horizontal resoluation) OOPS! =)

The point is, if you are using a sensitivity that high you won't be able to hit per pixel shots anymore. So it's really an excess of DPI. Let alone the fact that most people in quake use much lower resolutions in quake.

Well, only complaint about the mamba is the fact that the sensor is complete shit, and their newest firmware did nothing to fix it(cursor will now act randomly as you slowly move your cursor, rather than skip).
