Would you guys consider this a good gaming PC for competitive games? The only game I am really interested in is Quake Live. Thanks for the help!

Also, I need a recommendation for a good gaming monitor as well? Keep in mind that I do not care about having a higher resolution than 1280x1024, widescreen, etc. Thanks again!

Nigh on what's on its way to me now, for �499.05, with a slightly better processor (E8500) and only 2GB of RAM ('cause I seriously never touch 2GB anyway.) That machine will absolutely destroy Qlive if that's what you're worried about, you'll have no problem getting 125FPS no matter what res you use.

As for a gaming monitor, as somebody who switched to TFT 'cause he thought they weren't shit any more: I'd recommend you get a CRT if you don't mind the space/weight, if not, I have a 22" samsung 226BW and I'm pretty happy with it overall, it's not awful for gaming, just doesn't even touch a CRT in terms of frame rate.

seem's fine, but I would still go with Q6600 processor.

Why anyone would choose 2 cores over 4 for a similar price is beyond me.

The Q6600 has been proven to Overclock almost just aswell as any Dual core out there.

And given the fact that you get all the multi tasking benfits with quad core AND the very likely potential that it will be supported (remember the same idiots who said DONT buy dual core CPU's around th time of Q4) then its a no brainer.

Also you gonna need to increase fan speed on the hd4850 cos they do run really hot. I just cut the blue wire off the fan and it's on max speed all time. But apparently you can do it through the next version of the catalyst drivers plus I really wanted to cut the blue wire :)

I did the .xml fan speed thing with my Sapphire HD4850, now it idles at 40�C at 40% compared to 70�C at 29%, amazing. Completely quiet too.

I think these cards can handle the heat though. I still want to try 100% one of these days though, my system is really quiet ATM so I'd like to see how much louder it gets.

One more question. I have surround sound headphones (TrittonAx360). Will I still be able to hear very clear with them on if I am using the onboard sound that is included with my purchase? Should I upgrade my sound card, or will I buy fine?

buy the sound card from a local store, and test for yourself. if you can't hear any difference, just return it.
