-1 is controlled by windows and 1 is directinput. Dinput causes lag, as it buffers mouse movements, m_filter also has the disadvantage of causing mouse lag because as it takes 2 readings and averages them.. -1 ought to be better.

I may be wrong on this but the lag people talk about with dinput 1 was the Windows 98 stack, with XP I don't think there's any significant lag on Dinput.

-1 switches off dinput which is no good if you got a mouse with high dpi as it somehow leads to "negative acceleration" (probably some sort of buffer overflow).
1 is fine for me in the way i've never experienced any lag but lots of random bugs like a sticky mouse1 button and the likes. only happens in q3 and i've got no idea why it does that.

overall i use 1 although i prefer the "feel" of -1.

The negative acceleration is because of the way it picks up the mouse movement. It puts the cursor in the middle of the desktop and then sees how far it has moved from the middle. You get insane negative acceleration because the mouse cursor can't go past the edge of the screen - with high dpi you hit the edge very easily.

raz= .465 seconds
bitter= .689. seconds
xaero= .505 seconds

However, it is actually Bitterman that is the quietest out of all 3; regardless of him having the longest sample, for most part it's very quiet although there is v little between him and raz.
I.E. they are both v close.

It's definitely not Xaero.

There are only 4 kinds of footsteps.

With shoes (sarge, bitterman, visor)
Barefoot (xaero, klesk, uriel)
Metallic (keel, tankjr)
Floating (anarki, slash)

The floating ones are probably the most silent

those are all the official vanilla footsteps groups i axtracted from the game.

Xaero and Uriel both belong to the Flesh field which is the quiestest, but they change to metal when they go over floors with the appropriate flag set, so really it's not worth obsessing over :)

I would say, Xaero, Bitterman and Raz or anyone else who uses a combination of their "jump" grunts and "footsteps" are the best to play as.

Xaeros advantage is that he shares the FLESH footstep, which is quiet on the majority of floor surfaces.

Fox, what if in ESWC they don't allow cnq3.exe. I mean, playing without antialiasing when you are used to it sure should suck bigtime.

Still, good thread. Though I doubt you need much fancy stuff for TF2 with regards to config. Depends on what class you play really, but all you need is to remove the viewmodels, that usual simplified hud (I'm sure if you search it up you'll find it, near on everyone uses it... Well, I don't :D), whatever crosshair you want, and if you desperately need to, use a lower DX-level value for more fps... Wide screen's pretty much a must as well since you get more FOV

Gotta love the stats for TF2 though... With a slight bit of stalking, here's a couple of ones I found :P

I couldn't be bothered to find any others, I'm sure there's more, but there's also a lot of fakes :P

Kinda interesting to see what classes Quakers use on TF2. Fox and stermy both using more hitscan weapons rather then projectiles.

i play mainly scout the thing that annoys is view shake with some weapons scattergun for example , tho rockets dont shake view, some cl_bob commands are considered cheats (wtf xD) :), thx btw

I honestly don't understand why I'm so bad at the scout on good ping servers. It's not like I'm not hitting the shots, and I'm not dodging well or getting up close, but on low ping servers, I just seem to do barely any damage. On close meat-shot on a soldier, I'll do like 20-40 damage on a decent ping server, but if I play on a US server for fun (where my ping is 120upwards), I'm doing like 70-90 damage meatshots... It shouldn't make a difference since the hitboxes work on lagg compensation (so therefore, whatever I hit when I see it, I hit), so it makes no sense to me why I suck more on a server with better ping :Z

Tend to play all the classes equally on pubs though. 6v6 Medic just because of that above problem... Otherwise I'd be a scout :(

good cl_interp values help :) its like sniping with a bad cl_interp youll get random headshots. Zerox is rulez :D

Yeah I always use the lower interp possible so it's all inline with what I'm aiming at, but for whatever reason I just suck as a scout on EU servers :(

By the way, without taking this thread too far off it's rails, all TF2 players get your asses on this:

For those of you that know, spread the word, for those that don't, it's a L4D style lobby pug system for TF2. It's hit or miss if you get a good game, but nobody bothers with irc shit anyway :D

Aint used irc much for tf2. Only really 1.6 mixes and it's been up and down more then a triple vagina hooker recently so the lobby has been so much easier :P
