If a weapon is very powerful, it should be hard to aim (or hit) with. Removing xerp might not be a good solution (or even a solution at all it seems if you listen to the CPM crowd?). But it seems to me that the weapon should be either be nerfed damage wise, or just harder to hit with if its too dominant in the communitys eyes.
Maybe this is the case in CQ3 though? I havent played CQ3 yet so I cant say.

Actually a lot of people (tbh almost everyone who knows this cvar) xerps nowdays, but still they can't aim so accurate. He's just good aimer, and always has been like that (in osp as well). Just face it.

I don't like being disadvantaged. I want that game to be "normal", or what it has been for years before CPMA came. I want that cvar disabled, I want everyone to be equal and play with fair net settings.

That's the thing though, the net settings ARE fair (That's why lots of Eastern Euros can play well now) it's just the game can't handle the improvement for everyone :(

I agree that OSP gameplay was better but the technical environment of CPMA is so much fairer.

If the VQ3 community could just work together slightly for once we could easily tweak the game (Like in CQ3) and play that instead, hell it might be even better than OSP then.

I just dislike the fact that everyone now HAS to turn on xerp to be competetive, as you won't stand a chance against a xerper, no matter his ping or your ping.
It's sad, the game looks completely different from what it used to be, and I don't think it was meant to be played the way it is gonna be played now.

edit : I'm not using it as it doesn't reflect how the game should be. The game was, in my eyes, the most balanced game ever, with weapons being equal. It's not the case if you turn on xerp, when you can easily and often kill your enemy with 20 lg ammos.

Xerpclients isn't the problem LAGHAX -1 is what is causing all the hits to register xerpclients is just a visual aid of where the opponent is.

The netcode settings laghax, nudge etc are what causes more hits to register and as it so happens they do a good job of it.

20ms vs 60ms equal skill is still advantage 20ms. Even if the 60ms player uses xerp.

Some time ago I was talking to some best pl players, and I remember that v3rb wasnt using xerp - his aim is the same with or without it.

Maybe his aim is the same versus low skilled players, with 10 ms on polish public servers, but definitely not against skilled players. I've followed v3rb, I know how he plays ; his aim was definitely different in OSP.

v3rb asked me to remove this link and now listen all of you: If someone has problem with v3rb's aiming, pm him on Qnet - he has 2GB of OSP demos where his aim is similar like in CPMA. HF with watching it ;-)

Actually, arQon giving his opinion isn't something reliable. More than half of the community whines about xerp, including professional gamers whom do have sufficient knowledge and wise opinions about how the game changed. I'm _NOT_ making any statement, I'm just noticing the flame going around, among both the community AND renowned players. Furthermore, arQon being the developer doesn't make him a Mr knows it all. Everyone has always granted him for what he did, there's no doubt that he pushed the game to its peak, and we can all thank him for that. However, I don't think that he's the one to fit, when it comes to judge the imbalance of the gameplay. He's a developer, not a player. When you create a project aimed at a community, it then becomes a commitment to face the various critics and improve what is improvable. Even if xerp ain't that bad, I blame arQon for ignoring community's wish : to allow a xerp turn on/off via callvote, or at least, make it appear in /Players panel.
That being said, I wish I could see you one day win some tourney instead of opening your mouth in every forum ; free whining is what you do the best. Don't even mention the word 'faking' again, if you can't even create yourself an account and show your nick. every RL matters, every Quad/Pent matters, every sneaked enemy in your area of control = deadliness, you have to push, you have to sneak, you have to secure backpacks for team mates and be aware of elements of environment (triggers, platforms, hazards, spike shooters) etc.

You seem to miss a few key points. Aim is aim fair enough but do consider........

OSP and CPMA vq3 are diff mods, they feel different to play, the netcodes different. I have made more comebacks than some twat out of Take That but could always quite happily pick up Q2/Q3 (or even RTCW/ET) after long periods away (months or years) and play reasonably well, especially tdm/stopwatch. I have now found out however that I really struggle if the game is different to what it was when you last played, and this is issue is amplified if your opponents have been playing said mod for years :P

Yes! The the polish having been playing CPMA for years and years..., I recall days when it was known as the polish mod, simply cos of bad connections they played it on a massive scale in Poland. I remember when matr0x demos 1st started appearing.... :P

Yes the other shocker...! The polish also played OSP at same time, of course they did as majority of big tourneys always used OSP (all be it on a shit ping but we are talking aim here right?). Majority of other people in the old-school days stuck to OSP.! It is more than possible to play several mods at a high level in a particular game if you want, even if the mods feel so different :P To be honest you can play 2 totally different games at a high level - you just have to put some time in at one stage in life :P

Anyway I am babbling. See my point yet ? :p It basically means the aim margin would be not be so vast in OSP compared to CPMA as us OSP players actually used to erm play OSP and stuff ?: P. Christ lets play a totally different game and see who really can aim !!??!

High pings did not stop Russia in OSP did it?:) They came to BWEC (after qualifying online in groups that were made so pings would be reasonably fair), bummed everyone to peoples suprise (including some ladys of the night iirc:) then went home and competed online to the best level they could, they didnt moan that much online in OSP and always turned up which was admirable. Thank god they did this for years on end for the q3 scene eh? :) Teams i was in always used to try and play on some shitty de or other servers to get a reasonably fair ping v clans like Forze, and other clans from Slovenia? (might be wrong) like errr 666 etc.

I have had a shit DSL connection for years myself, regardless of that 4K was all stuck on ISDN for years and years when most clans could field 4 cablers or "lanned" up on a fat pipe at some secret wank-fest in Geneva. (ISDN = Ping was ok 40-50 ms dos at 1st, maybe lower for people in southern UK, but the plasma lagged you out etc, binds only etc:)

CPMA is the "answer" to the net code and it obviously works if you look at accuracies now a days........ but to say OSP was/is unplayable on such a ping is so wrong............ lucky a lot of clans never thought the way you do or there would of been a lot of boring Eurocups :P

I think you might misunderstand his point about his connection.

I'm on virgin at uni and it literally is unplayable (Mine is worse than his because I share with 3 others!) even in CPMA for me. I get massive spikes of ping with constant lag outs, can't use standard settings (mp 125, and some servers lock it at 60 and such, ffs).

On a good day I can just about manage to play some Q3 with CPMA thanks to the netcode and commands such as cg_optimiseBW "2". In OSP I just get a constant 999 ping or the weapons are so hopelessly inconsistant it's not even worth trying.

Now obviously you can say, then get a better connection but it's not really a choice for me (high connection cost to bt, other housemates etc.)

OptimiseBW cuts down on the amount of data sent/recieved. It defaults to 1 on pretty much all cpma servers 2 cuts it down even more but you miss out on things like teleporters etc.

I think Rush3d is quality, noctis and gandhi are quality, mS and Pantery are quality, etc, etc...

I think it's interesting that this demo has more comments than downloads. Gotta love when uninformed people whine XERP just for the hell of it.

Oh. And as someone wrote earlier, Poland got 2nd place in nations cups when osp was used so clearly they are not all aim.
I would rather see a team of relatively unknown Team Players win, than a pickup team of Big Name Players mainly chosen for their ancient achievements.

not sure if anyones interested but we played them again in clanbase, with the goal of scraping back some pride. it was very close on ospdm5, we won dm14 and dm7 was closer but we lost unfortunately ;]. cpma dm7 isn't the same, you're at a disadvantage unless you cess, due to the ability for players to hit 45-50% mg, quite sad! team-ffa ;] at least the result was a lot more respectable for us, ggs.

you mean due to the netcode's "ability" to let the players hit where they aim, and that's really NOT sad. But if the sad part was only about having to cess, then I agree.

well, i have no quarell with the netcode. however, xerp changes the techniques required to aim well with mg / shaft. probably the other guns too but, shaft in osp was always a PREDICTIVE weapon, you predicted their movements patterns, except on LAN where it became more reactive due to the extremely low latency. as such cpma/xerp has altered the online game dynamic and in combination with the slower movement has promoted a "point + click" style of aiming. ofcourse everyone is good at aiming now? it's quite humourous that those who weren't so great at aiming before (not that i'm pointing this comment to you) are praising it now. but it's bad for the vq3, in cpm xerp is great - it was designed to aid the mod. I've played a lot of cpm and i think xerp fits it fine. but in vq3 it totally fucks the balance.

using that argument is fine, but totally absurd when you apply some basic context and knowledge. i've played both mods extensively (cpma cpm, cpma vq3 i mean) and i've played since 2000 so i've seen how stuff has developed. just look at it. it's very silly to say that "xerp" hasn't changed q3's basic aiming dynamics, you could add a different weapon and it would have a similar effect; altering gameplay/balance. so people who say that to me, clearly don't understand what q3 was for the last 6-7yrs. they are aiming better because the skills required to aim have changed. while i am by no means discreditting their win over us, i'd be lying if i didn't say that i think this bias towards aim isn't a step backwards in the gameplay. try playing without xerp, that's a little more accurate - but still with the slower movement it's definitely easier, xerp is overkill.

Gameplay is certainly worse I don't think anyone should/would argue otherwise (Kinda blatant really). I don't think it would take much tweaking to fix the "new" balance issues (That have always been there just every year it increasingly becomes more obvious).

The "predictive" element of OSP aiming isn't really a different way of aiming at all it's just you can't see the delay/latency, it's also a highly UNFAIR skill, the lower the ping the less predicting you have to do and therefore the higher the ping the more skilled you have to be to overcome an inferior opponent.

SKILL?!?!? Predicting @ OSP with hitscan weapons is NOT about skill (not that there is none in it), it's about luck. You GUESS the enemy will go one way and lead your aim predicting there, but if he goes the other way you'll be shooting anything.

Skills is about REALLY hitting where you are aiming, if the crosshair is on the enemy you hit, if it's not, you don't, no guesses, no luck, long live CPMA \o/

That was pretty much my point I just worded it in a different manner.
