That was actually a penalty.

It didn't look like it to begin with but during the half time analysis on the BBC they showed it from an angle where you could see the contact. It was slight but it was enough to push the leg that was stepping forwards into the leg that was planted, you cant stay up when that happens.

This world cup Brazil played horrible and still managed to get to 1/4 finals. They had no chemistry among themselves, obvious superstars didn't even come close to living up to their names and yet they reached 1/4 finals when far better teams got kicked. Why? Because good teams manage to win no matter how much they seem lacking. Italy played bad for 2nd half etc etc well I didn't see France scoring any goals on the horrible playing Italy. Did you?

I actually cheered for italy after Ger vs Arg game. Argentina has always been the team I cheer for since I can remember. So for the last 2 games I've been cheering for italy. italy vs germany then italy vs france. That's all. Not because they won or whatever crap you spit out. And as for me having a clue about football.. I don't think I'll even argue that because I don't want to resort to "oh gawd lyke I am smarter then you on futball" mud slinging. Did France score on the 2nd half when Zidane was still there, Henry was still there, Ribery, Makelele etc. while Italy was playing so so horrible as you say. The answer is NO. Playing great is always fun to watch but it doesn't mean shit when you can't follow through. And when you can't follow through then you lose. The only decent shot I saw during the 2nd half from France was Zidane's header, and well Buffon \o/ And in the end, with Zidane basically doing France up the butt himself, and the PK mishit, Italy > France. [p]
This game reminds me of Ghana vs Brazil. Ghana argueably outplayed Brazil and still got their asses handed to them because no matter how many chances they created they could not follow through. OOHH the great Cinderella story, well Brazil > Ghana in this WC. [p]

it wasnt a decider because:

a.) even the best keeper in the world (buffon/lehmann) wouldn't have had a chance to avoid the 1:1

b.) penalty shoot out only depends on luck on the keeper's side

since there was no other crucial situation with argentina's keeper involved, the injury of the first keeper had no real consequences. and btw, football is a physical sport. shit like this happens.

I don't think PK is about luck anymore with keepers like Ricardo who seem to be always on the right side. In fact I don't remember one PK against Ricardo where he was faked.

IMO knowing your GK has been injured and your 2nd is playing who is not warmed up for the game makes the players play a little more defensive then they would. Mentality of players changing is a significant factor in any game.

Lastly, I want to say one last thing. Get your head out of your ass. You think I don't want to continue argueing with you because I can't or whatever but bottom line is it's over. i agree. i don't follow football (only the world cups if i have time and sometimes other events like champions league etc) but i'm so fucking angry for what happened.
anyways that's another fact and it is not related at all with the wc.
my hope is juventus in C2, lazio and fiorentina in C1 and milan in B (in italy we have A,B,C1,C2) and some penal actions against the "smarts".

france has a somewhat strong team,
but they never broke through in the attack somehow,
in the prerounds already the draws against south korea and switzerland ... and then against brazil ... henry made a goal ...
out of a standard ... and brazil blundered so bad ... henry hadn't had anyone encountering him ... also the game against portugal was a present ... they won on a penality, that was not really a penality ...
the final was between two opponents who didn't earn the title,
end of story, but that's football, one thing why it is so attractive in public, also the bad teams can win, like greece in europe for example.

argentinia was the best team, germany bethanks to the bonus playing in their own land almost as good as argentinia ...

brazil and france do have the best individual players,
