d-day was of no use... russians were at Berlim´s door at that moment... the americans + british (+canadians?) single purpose was to reach it first and say they won the war...
AND, Adolf "motherfucker" Hitler said many times that he would not destroy Paris, so people would see how crappy it is near to the Berlim he wanted do buid... So the french should thank Napoleon III, and not capitulation, for their beautifull city =)
