To anyone who has a brain to use for themselves, the quote is obviously "Our children is learning," of which there is nothing wrong if you have a sincere grasp of the English language. Then again, a bunch of snooty Euro assholes going around cherry-picking fuck-ups from someone they don't like (because they were told not to like them) so they can make fun of them all the time is probably not even worth attention.
It has a lot to do with it, genius. These people go around deliberately TRYING to find things they can use to make Bush look stupid.
Yeah, you're American, but just because you are doesn't mean you understand "English," which is exactly why I said anyone who has a sincere grasp of the language knows that there's technically nothing wrong with the statement.
It is a philosophical issue, though. Yes, "children" is contemporaneously "plural," but does it have to be? Is "people" plural? Sometimes we say "a people." That's because people can be a collective or seen individually. British people tend to see corporations as plural entities, comprised of individual elements, and, thus, they make statements like: "Microsoft are evil."
However, in the United States of America, we might say "Microsoft is evil," recognizing it as a single entity, instead.
The issue with "Is our children learning" is the same thing. And, while I wouldn't say it myself, it is technically not 'bad grammar.'
dude, there are plenty of people, in usa and elsewhere, who believe bush is a douchebag, which he is. this man deserves to be criticized and you shouldn't hold prejudices against someone just because of their geographical location.
First of all, yes, there are plenty of people in the USA and everywhere else who believe Bush is a "douchebag."
Whether he is or not is debatable -- those are completely your words. It is also your opinion that 'this man deserves to be criticized,' and that I shouldn't hold prejudice against people.
"This people shares characteristics with certain inhabitants of central Asia. The aboriginal peoples of the Western Hemisphere speak many different languages."
What about it? Did you read what I said about context? Someone isn't "stupid" for improvising or floundering when they're speaking in public. Maybe he forgot what he was saying and paused. Have you ever even heard anyone speaking publicly? Get a grip.
