What supposed to be a big 25 year anniversary event that celebrates all that is id Software and Bethesda. Has been cancelled because of the covid-19 virus.
Whilst august is still far away, the staff of Quakecon reports that it's almost impossible to arrange everything in time while the virus still goes rampart over the globe and that the health & safety of everyone that is visiting the event goes first.
There for they saw no reason to continue QuakeCon for this year.

People will get their tickets refunded. Details about a refund will be known later.
We have been monitoring Coronavirus concerns and having weighed the potential health risks to our community we’ve made the incredibly difficult decision to cancel TwitchCon Amsterdam.
TwitchCon is the best weekend to be a Twitch fan. To say we’re disappointed you won’t be able to enjoy the show we’ve been building for you is a massive understatement. Anyone who purchased a ticket will be refunded the full amount of your TwitchCon ticket. Cancellations will be issued no later Friday, March 20. ESL just announced they aren't allowed to have any visitors during the IEM event in Katowice because of SARS-CoVID-19 / Novel Corona virus.
"Due to the dynamic changes in the global health situation, the Gouverneur of Silesian Jaroslaw Wieczorek issued a decision to remove their approval regarding ESL hosting a mass event in Katowice, Poland.
The tournament will be conducted and broadcasted as planned, but without any additional visitors on-site. We are deeply sorry for all fans and players."

Hello, since people asked what that bird was on my shoulder.
It's a crow (corvus corone), he's unable to fly and cannot be released in the wild because of abuse from past owners. Got mr Boris (thats hís name) for 3,5 years now.
Faq: Are crows good pets?
Yes, but you should get some knowledge about them. They are highly intelligent animals with special needs, they poop alot and they live up to 30 years in captivity
Whats the difference between crows, rooks, ravens and jackdaws?
All of these animals are part of the crows family,
- Jackdaws are the smallest and have grey feathers with a black head
- rooks are almost identical as crows, but have their pants on and their beak is grey
- ravens are way bigger! (350 gramms for a crow vs 1,7 / 2 kg for a raven!), also their tail is slightly different
What do crows eat?
Basically everything, but keep it down with the salty food. Also milk products, avocados and chocolate are very dangerous for them.
Is it legal to own a crow?
Yeah, if you have the C.I.T.E.S. papers or your animal is ringed.
OMFG YOU ANIMAL ABUSER, THEY SHOULD FLY FREE IN NATURE! I totally agree with you, but this guy can't. He will die.
Can crows talk like humans?
Yes, but not as complex as a parrot but more then any other songbird.
Crows are fucking evil and belong to the devil!!!

The two media companies ENDEMOL SHINE and BLAMMO are going to research the possibilities of eSports. They find each other the perfect partners because Endemol has a wide history of media while Blammo Media has 14 years of experience in gaming media. Also Blammo Events is the host of the Firstlook event in the Benelux every year.
“Blammo onderscheidt zich al jaren met succesvolle, innovatieve mediaproducties en heeft veel verstand van gaming. Die expertise kunnen wij goed gebruiken. Omgekeerd profiteert Blammo van onze kennis en ervaring en de toegang tot een internationaal creatief en commercieel netwerk.„ — Jurian van der Meer, commercial director Endemol Shine Nederland
"Blammo distinguishes itself for years with successful, innovative media productions and has much knowledge of gaming. This expertise enables us to use it well. Conversely Blammo benefit from our knowledge and experience and access to an international creative and commercial network'' - Juriaan van der Meer, Commercial Director Endemol Shine Netherlands
“eSports maakt een spectaculaire ontwikkeling door en verspreidt zich over steeds meer platforms. Dat biedt veel perspectief, want met name de media- en storytelling-kant van eSports is wereldwijd nog redelijk onderontwikkeld. Met een partner als Endemol aan onze zijde hebben we een sterke uitgangspositie om die mogelijkheden te benutten.„
— Ruben Heere, Blammo
" ESports made a spectacular development and spreads over more and more platforms. This offers great perspective , especially because the media and storytelling side of eSports worldwide still fairly underdeveloped. With a partner like Endemol on our side we have a strong position to take advantage of these opportunities . "
- Ruben Heere, Blammo
The companies sees financial opportunities as since eSports is seeing a massive growth the past few years. With more than 27 million people watching League of Legends championships live it is comparable with sports such as ice hockey and swimming.
Endemol was founded in 1994 and is well known from TV productions such as Fox Sports, Wheel of Fortune, The Voice or Big Brother. They sold their programs to more then 130 countries and works with more then 300 broadcasters.
Their business covers development, production, marketing, distribution, franchise management and multi-platform initiatives including digital video, gaming and apps. So them investigating in eSports could be a big deal.
However, it's not their first time that they looked at eSports, back in 2005 they had a pilot program named: "Totally Esports" (with Lauke), even though this was a small succes, Endemol felt it was a bit to early to jump into the world of eSports and cancelled the TV program.

Goodnews everyone, according to Der Spiegel, you can finally buy and play Quake (World) in Germany. After 15 years the Germans and their watch dog ''Bundesprüfstelle für jugendgefährdende Medien'' decided that Quake shouldn't be on the ban list because they don't find the game realistic anymore. Which is pretty reasonable after 15 years.
Realistic Commodore 64 games such as Rambo and River Raid are still on the ban list.

Gabe Newell from Valve has announced that the database and forums of Steam have been hacked.
According to Valve, this happened earlier this week and investigations led to evidence that the hackers had obtained access to the Steam database. This means the hackers might have acquired your credit card informations if you have registered one on Steam, Valve advises you to keep an eye on your credit card activity.
Our Steam forums were defaced on the evening of Sunday, November 6. We began investigating and found that the intrusion goes beyond the Steam forums.
We learned that intruders obtained access to a Steam database in addition to the forums. This database contained information including user names, hashed and salted passwords, game purchases, email addresses, billing addresses and encrypted credit card information. We do not have evidence that encrypted credit card numbers or personally identifying information were taken by the intruders, or that the protection on credit card numbers or passwords was cracked. We are still investigating.
We don't have evidence of credit card misuse at this time. Nonetheless you should watch your credit card activity and statements closely.
While we only know of a few forum accounts that have been compromised, all forum users will be required to change their passwords the next time they login. If you have used your Steam forum password on other accounts you should change those passwords as well.
We do not know of any compromised Steam accounts, so we are not planning to force a change of Steam account passwords (which are separate from forum passwords). However, it wouldn't be a bad idea to change that as well, especially if it is the same as your Steam forum account password.
We will reopen the forums as soon as we can.
I am truly sorry this happened, and I apologize for the inconvenience.

Stealing virtual items in games such as World of WarCraft, TeamFortress 2, Runescape etc. etc. etc... is now a crime in the Netherlands, this has been stated by the judge in the Supreme Court. In 2008, a 13-year-old boy was threatened with physical violence with a knife from one of his friends unless he handed over some items in RuneScape. The Supreme Court stated that virtual items are of an economical value, so it's a crime when you steal it.
The suspect has been issued a 160 hour forced labor penality with a 4 month conditional juvenile detention. The accused appealed, how ever a year later the Supreme Court stated the same verdict.

ESL has removed QuakeLive from the next Masters season for League of Legends.
bds former manager of SK had some criticism about ESL on Twitter.
''What a horrible esports decision to remove QuakeLive in favor of League of Legends http://t.co/vgUZAa5, Exactly, esports is all about money and not about the game/fun anymore, LoL is wayyyyy more profitable.
Which is so sad for esports “@FredrikReinius: @geekboys Can't say I fully agree on that decision either but I guess it's a numbers game.
ESL picking LoL feels a little like the CPL picking Painkiller for their World Tour...
@Slasher and Angry Birds have millions, maybe that should be the next title? I think it is sad that esports is turning away from its core
@RalfReichert CS, SC2, QL would have been the best esports decision by far. Don't forget your roots! We don't want to dumb down the scene.
Esport tournaments should have one DM title (QL), one TDM title (CS) and one RTS title (SC2). It shows all aspects of what it is all about.
Quake - A minute to learn a lifetime to master #esports''

FirstLook won't only bring Duke Nukem, but we will also see KillZone 3, Dead Space 2, Dragon Age 2, Medal of Honor, Gran Turismo 5, Fallout New Vegas and many more major titles.

---- Amsterdam, Netherlands -----
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: ClanBase introduces QUAKELIVE
ClanBase is proud to add the web based first person shooter, QUAKE LIVE, to our growing list of games. This wouldn't be possible without the help of id Software, we would like to express our deepest thanks to id Software for their support. We will be launching several competitions for the shooter's various game types very soon.
ClanBase will kick off with the Duel and TDM modes using the traditional ClanBase cup system. We suggest you to check out ClanBase frequently because signups for these cups will be openning in the very near future.
While you wait for the cups and idle on the QuakeNET IRC network in #clanbase.ql, it may be a good idea to register your QUAKE LIVE name tag on ClanBase, under the GUID's section. Please note that we may be using PunkBuster software in the future, which may require a PB GUID to be added.
If you don't have a QUAKE LIVE account yet head over to www.quakelive.com and register today!
What is QUAKE LIVE?
QUAKE LIVE is a free game supported by advertisement that looks very much like Quake 3 Arena, but unlike its predecessor, it's played via web browser. The special browser plug-in is very well optimized so that even low budget desktop systems are able to run it at a stable 100+ fps, however it does require faster CPU and graphic card than Quake 3 Arena.
Maps, game modes and weapons all come from Q3 and Q3: Team Arena. Some maps have been remade and altered accordingly to beta testers feedback. There are 6 game modes included for online game play: Duel, Team Deathmatch, Capture The Flag, Free For All, Clan Arena and Instagib (FFA). Every online match played on a ranked server is stored for one month along with its relevant information such as frags, deaths and weapon accuracy, which makes the game even more interesting.
More detailed information about QUAKE LIVE can be found in the QUAK LIVE guide on www.quakelive.com.

The Drome Crew have announced their return! (well, sort of..) Last night they announced Drome 13.5, this after an absence of 1,5 years. How ever this BYoC is completely different then from what you known from Drome. This time the LAN is much smaller (a max of 200 instead of 2000) but way more exclusive. Because you will stay in the 4 star "Hotel Resort Amelander Kaap Luxer". Which is located on an Island in the North of the Netherlands.
So what's the catch? Well for a whopping 129 euros you can join this LAN. See below for exact details from what you will expect.
During the weekend the whole resort is reserved for Drome guests. This means all facilities the hotel has to offer are exclusively offered for the event. The package we have created offers:
• Spend the night in your hotel room or apartment for approximately. 2 to 6 persons.
• Taxi ride to and from the hotel from the ferry
• Seat in the Lanparty area
• The luxury of having your own bed and bathroom with shower/bath in your hotel room
• Breakfast buffet for Saturday and Sunday
• Lunch buffet for Saturday and Sunday
• Diner buffer for Saturday
• Drinks will have to be paid separately (but reasonable priced!)
And if you're looking for some relaxation before or after gaming, these are some of the extra facilities we will offer:
• swimming pool
• sauna's
• tennis courts
• Wii - and movie theatre
• bar + relax area
Because it's somewhat expensive to have a car ferried to the island, and there's not really a need for a car there anyway, we advise you to park your car at the ferry harbour. The costs for parking are 5 euro per day. You can enter the ferry "on foot" (10,60 euro p.p. return ticket). Make sure you only bring essential gear (PC case, TFT, 1 large backpack), to make the ferry journey as easy as possible. Normal sleeping gear can be left at home (inflatable bed, sleeping bag, etc). Bed linen, pillows and towels are all available in your hotel room/apartment. On the island we'll have taxis and buses available to bring you to the hotel. Once arrived, you'll be signed in and you'll receive the key to your room.
We strongly advise to come in groups. We'll organize the allocation of rooms and apartments based on group reservations. Also you can cut down on parking- and fuel costs when travelling with multiple persons in one car.
The LAN will be live held on the weekend of February 20th to 22nd 2009. Reservations will open in approximately 1 or 2 weeks from now.
For more info or if you want to signup, feel free to check out the Drome site.

Yesterday in the Theater Factory, Amsterdam the Dutch World Cyber Games Qualifiers finals has been played. This during the Firstlook game exhibition. The results are known and these people will go to Germany to fight for the honor and of course the big bucks.
All the games has been played except for Counter-Strike, this because DCC-Gaming didn't show up for the ECG. So Blammo (the host of WCG NL) decided not to hold a CS 1.6 qualifier this year.

I really am wondering what the point is of G7 Teams. I really don't get it, but if someone does then please explane to me.
For now it's just a huge mumbo-jumbo crap from a few teams that think that they are in-control. But, they are not. Because recently team SK Gamingannounced that they have Violet as a new player. How-ever he could only join when the G7 agreed on it... Hold it, wait... waaaaiiiit.. are you serious?
Who gives a shit? What if SK Gaming didn't do that and they letted him just join. Would they been kicked out from G7? Would that have any influence at all?
No, absolutely not! Because tournament organisations like WCG, ESL, GGL or ESWC wouldn't care more or less if G7 agreed with the transfer about a new player or not. He could still play for their tournament, he could still play for SK gaming. So really G7 what is the point? Ok, you could use the boycotting tactic again on all of those events, however wouldn't that be giving yourself a neck shot?
If they really want to have more influence over gaming then they need to act in a different sense. Making actually a contract to tournament organisers. Such as, we will play your tournament and won't drop out prematurely if you agree to pay us out. But they could also fill in the contract about player transfers and much more little letters that could benefit for both sides. Also it could give G7 a grow boost if minor/smaller or less known teams could join them with the same. If you have a huge database full of teams that agree on the same, then you actually have weight against something. But not like this.. this doesn't work at all. Your are only a minor pack and nobody gives a damn.. except about yourself.
Also they are mostly Counter-Strike teams or World of WarCraft teams. That doesn't represent e-Sports! It only show you have a bit more money then an other team. So again.. what is the point of all this then? You are mostly in only two kind of games. Sure, perhaps a few teams are in more then one game. How-ever you are far away from being a good representive of eSports. I mean, isn't Quake an eSport? What about Enemy Territory then? Or many more games that could qualify as one? Aren't they important enough?
Unless ofcourse I'm utterly wrong, then please tell me so. Because now it's just a huge fuzz about absolutely nothing.

Sweden has raised one of the biggest and best Quake players of all time. There for everyone knows the old gamers joke: "If you are from Sweden, your are automatically a good FPS player". This was also a valid rule for the Arena legend Alexander 'Z4muZ' Ihrfors. How ever, like a lot of former eSports players, a few years ago Z4muZ changed his shaft for a pack of cards. So these days you might find him online or in a casino for poker.
Z4muZ is becoming a man, currently 22 years old and lives together with his girlfriend in a nice apartment in Avesta, Sweden. So he's living a good life out there in the cold.
For us a good reason to interview Z4muZ. Just to see how he is, what he does and what he loves.
The invites for the 18th season of the ClanBase EuroCup has been started. The teams and players that are going to play for this Online cup are slowly getting known. Sadly not via the promised video show. According to ClanBase, the location they are wasn't fully prepared for it and there for ClanBase couldn't do anything else then to stop it and continue via I.R.C. Which is of course a disappointment for anyone.

ClanBaseannounced today that they have launched a separate division especially for Greece. This to encourage a lower entery bar for new users from Greece but also to localise more with new cups and ladders.
Mads 'MadUSA' Ehrhardt from GGL ClanBase said:
"We are excited to being able to bring news in local language to some of the countries that are not that strong in the English language. Content in local language always reach further than non-native language news, and also caters to a more local audience. I am excited about this new set up and expect there will be more to come."
It's not the first time that ClanBase separated divisions, a few years ago they launched ClanBase Italy for an experiment which was successfully enough to continue this tradition with Greece.

To celebrate 13 years of Command & Conquer and that we soon see C&C Red Alert 3 in the shops. EA has made the original Command & Conquer : Red Alert a free download! This is surely not the first time that EA Games did this, Last year they did exactly the same with the first Command and Conquer.
Once again; The version you download is the exact same version as you could get on the Command and Conquer : The First Decade package, which means it's Windows XP compatible. How ever, I do not know if it also works on VISTA.
-This software contains support for Windows XP/98/Me/95 with installation instructions. This software is not supported by Windows Vista, however there are community driven strategies and tips available for making the software function on Vista which you can find on our various fan-sites.
-To install the software, you will need Winzip or Winrar to unrar the files. These files have also been compiled in to an ISO image. You will need to burn the ISO to a CD for the software to function or use a Virtual CD program to run the installation on your computer.
-Please do not mirror the files on your site. Please only use the download links available here.
-Please have fun

PERSBERICHT
E-Sportbond 'founding father' International e-Sport Federation

Game-Violations and ClanBase has joined forces into a massive anti-cheat campaign in nine different games which has PunkBuster support. ClanBase states that they have expanded their relationship with Game Violations; so they can work closer together. Also a third party will join their war against the cheaters, namely ESports-EU. They will provide Game-Violations and ClanBase with a hefty server to hold all data and streams.
Here is what Moadebe ClanBase's Chief of the Cheat & Abuse team had to say about their partnership with Game-Violations:
"We have been looking to team up with a recognised AntiCheat partner who could help protect games that we currently run ladders and cups for. Game Violations was an obvious choice because of their excellent track record in this area.
I have personally worked alongside Game Violations for over 2 years now and during that time I have found them to be professional and above all good at what they do. We have always enjoyed a unique working relationship, in that they started initially to cover ClanBase ladders. Their philosophy and goals are very similar to ours and they are an excellent partner to ClanBase in the continuing fight against cheaters.
Game Violations were paying their own costs for hosting and because of this their potential was limited. I would like to take this opportunity to thank eSport EU for their role in this partnership. By supplying a server, Game Violations can now expand into new areas. With our help they now have the ability to cover all games that currently run PunkBuster. ClanBase will supply AC admins to Game Violations to fill the new positions.
This will also be a great benefit to other leagues and communities. Now Game Violations will help in the detection and prosecution of cheaters in 9 more games. This gives a lot of gamers another recognised AntiCheat software, to help protect the game they all love and play."
Because all PB games are now being covered, we are taking this opportunity to change our rules regarding server streaming. We have decide to standardise the rule across all PB games. The following rule will be in effect immediately.
"All matches must be played on servers that stream to the ClanBase/Game-Violations repository. Streaming information and instructions can be found here. To check if the server you are playing on is streaming to the CB/GV repository check here. Streaming your match server to the CB/GV repository is a mandatory requirement. The clan responsible for the server is also responsible for making sure it streams. Matches where a streaming server cannot be organised will be cancelled."
We do realise this might cause some disruption to players/clans, so we are allowing a grace period of 4 weeks so everyone has time to download and install the new software. After that time anyone not complying with the new server rule will result in their matches being cancelled.
