For example a number of players get nervous in quake at LAN, smoking weed can calm them down so even IF<< weed made their reactions a tiny bit slower, the impact of them being calm could more than make for that and make them a more effective player by being able to stay calm and aim better instead of shaking.

So yeah, a drug which calms your nerves and allows you to focus more -as many people say it does, big fucking advantage if you happen to be a nervous lan player, which is everyone is compared to playing in their bedroom/games room.

So, THERE IS a very winnable case for proving taking weed or anything which makes you feel like that is cheating, which his why its banned, not for the "just for the sake of it" reason you give.

On a regular basis those who smoke weed consider it to be beneficial even if it is not. You can't take these guys at face value because they have the incentive to lie about the benefits of weed so they are not been seen as drug addicts, although most are. I usually can see if someone is addicted on weed by the way he/she behave -sudden changes in disposition, show exactly like other drug addicts abnormal agitation or others show apathy. If you confront them with rare exceptions they deny these observations and like to use excuses on why they use weed. I met more than one addict. They also tend in time to develop paranoia. One is telling me how the health minister of my country wanted to kill him on purpose when he was "ill" -felt dizzy for "unknown reasons LOL" by giving him "improper medication" -because he know it that that medication was improper, don't as him why. Another was telling me that all are spies, there are traitors all around, all of them, and so on.

Some use for recreational purpose, of course, but most of those who smoke weed do it quite regular and don't realize how it affects their brain.

My main point is that you cannot take seriously their so-called "advantages" spoken by them and it requires more data to know each how often he smoke, and to analyze in a scientific way their performance with and without weed. Even if you keep them under laboratory conditions you cannot be sure that they would not cheat the system, unless you keep them into chains.

Another problem not to be neglected is that if you have high dependency on smth when you don't take it there is increased chance to underperform, which can be perceived as "positive results" given by drugs. Like alcoholics whos hands are shaking badly unless you give them something to drink -and yes you just give some, they got visible better, but not better than if they would not develop that habit.

But the whole debate is pointless, since pro players also use caffeine and other energizers in high doses, and not all are prohibited.

For a certain type of person I could see it having some positive effects but for most it won't be AT ALL. Almost in the same way someone having ONE drink might help ease off some tension and in theory help performance. For some people that same amount of alcohol might make them slightly sloppier and perform worse. It all effects people very differently.

And yeah of course its banned from professional leagues in different undertakings for image and status, its still mostly illegal. Personally I don't think its a big deal (especially for eSports, people smoking weed and playing video games? who cares seriously lol) and its not like if you get a good player stoned all of a sudden they're significantly better. In the same way caffeine won't give someone a significant advantage. I would say the only recreational drug that will give that unfair advantage would be uppers like amphetamines and even coke.

Rapha, Raisy(QC), Cyber, Evil, Cypher is my list. I don't like QC that much, but I think Raisy has shown to be one of the greatest of all time, and he wasn't even a Quake pro before QC. Who has ever risen to the scene to beat Rapha at his top form, with little to no time to do so? Not Evil, nobody really. If Raisy had played QL duel, and had actually got to understand the way it is played, most likely Evil vs Raisy would have been a 125FPS Classic matchup, probably more so than even Evil vs Cypher.
