Same thing can be said about Quake Live, until someone goes back into hiding for 2 more minutes and 3 yellow armors, because of those 2 rails.

Quake Live gave n+1 opportunities for comeback, less than 15 minute duel in Q3 did, but still you had plenty of time to play with.
QC all of the is gone, 1 bad spawn and you're fucked. Yes games can be even and whatnot, but a game can also be over in 10-15 seconds and there is literally nothing one can do about it, nothing.

Round is not the full game, and you get a chance to come back in next round if you get what you think was a "bad spawn". I don't think that I've seen a game with obvious "bad spawn" yet though.

There are pros and cons, it's not universally bad.

Quake Live games gave "more time" to do the comeback, now the time is split, like p4r4 said, your chance of comeback is in the next round. Adding on top of that, this limit of "lives" serves a good purpose as a mercy limit. There have been way too many one sided, dull and uninteresting games in Quake Live where the score goes to something like 10 - 0, or the frag difference is way too much considering the skill gap of the players, then the spectating becomes just dragging down the time and decent players just ending the matches prematurely.

Quake Live comebacks was no candy land, often, the extra time was used just like it is now in Quake Champions, probing of good opportunities for rails, traps and just stacking up which in Quake Live took a lot of time with minimal poking between players in between that contributed to a lot of dead time of the actual comeback itself.

1 bad spawn is certainly not enough for the game to be over and 1 good spawn can provide equally much advantage for the losing player. So, please...

It might have come across that I was saying that it is universally bad, it is not, it's just not that good.

I'd actually prefer if they chanced the name, duel isn't suitable for that - hero battles or something like that would be much better and it would reflect what is actually going on for newcomers.

Names don't have articles and using "the" in conjunction with them is really annoying and grammatically incorrect , can someone tell the casters to stop saying "the sorlag is about to die", "the nyx is low, etc

I think QC duels got better with the 3 rounds. And i heard pros welcoming it.

We no see no more players doing something incredible, slowly finding a way how to brake someone with a 200\200, fighting in a hopeless position, winning when they never should. Well. The same thing goes in chess - they're getting faster. The classic time-control is too slow for the wide public. The shit is simply not broadcastable anymore. More and more events are now rapid or blitz. 1 mistake for the round is all you get. Serious guys won't show mercy.

True, but to be honest, nobody likes draws (in general), and in high-level chess, the more time you give these champions, the higher the chances of a draw happening.

Ok so i didn't say anything last week, but even though the commentators are much better this week - more relaxed - one of them keeps mentioning missing rails "by a hair's length"... The expression is "by a hair's breadth" and considering the length of their hair you'd think the difference would be pretty obvious to them :/

They need to be split up more than anything. What's the point of two frankly clueless (no offense) play by play commentators talking together nonstop. It's evident one of them could fill the airtime anyway, we need someone who understands Quake and can say more than just talk up someone's use of a champion.

I know you're new to commentating as well, so maybe it's teething issues, but you are pointing out mistakes too often. For the hardcore Quaker, that's probably what they look for, but to the new viewer, it's better to explain why the mistake is a mistake. Not hating, actually big fan of yours from back in the day, just trying to be constructive.

I actually like it that you point out mistakes and how you do it. Most commentators go for "OMG he missed the rail" while you'd say "bad weapon selection, he knows that he's low and should have used MG instead". Keep going!

I love the pointing out mistakes, it's so sharp by you. I think the best trick is to frame it somewhat positively if possible, like the pressure got to the player, the opponent forced it, etc. But please do not be discouraged from speaking your mind, it's awesome!

Count me in, ive watched a shit ton of quake and ive heard everyone cast quake at some point. With that said I really like your commentary, you just need someone colorful to cast with you.
