Also, I assume that the figure quoted in esportsearnings doesn't consider the share his sponsors take, although neither does it consider what he's being paid by sponsors. I'm not sure what amount of tax he will have to pay in Belarus, but he probably doesn't pay anything on his earnings.

Anyway, over his 9 year career he has earned:

In the UK I basically took the full cost of my degree (£9k~?) in a grant I don't need to repay for living costs. Now I just pay back the degree loan.

I'm not sure what is inaccurate about $40k in winnings in 3 years vs the estimated living costs of belarus of $11.5k over 3 years. Even if sponsors take 50% of LAN winnings (I'd be surprised if they got a cut of online winnings) that's still quite a bit spare unless you spend like Mike Tyson

I really dont understand this, most people in here really love quake and quake live. Qcon is the only live tournament this year, and alot of people are waiting for it. Ofcourse i understand that teams need Money in order to participate, but am i the only one to understand this?

Alot of people here are too unserious and sarcastic, remember that alot of those players that go, helps the Community to stay alive, and what do they get in return? if everyone here gave $10 that would mean alot to the competition scene. We can all state that quake live isnt a well payed game any more. And its far between sponsors that are willing to pay up.

If WE then want to see competition gaming, sitting at home, enjoying those moments we all love, its maybe up to us to get players there.

He showed the dedication, provided entertainment and let the community be a part of his process. All of you guys going on about how much money some players have made need to realize that they organizations that they represented in the past in some cases took up to 50% of their winnings. Knowing that, that gives them significantly less money to live on, not to mention its been years since we had a solid tournament circuit. More money was awarded to a player in a raffle than cypher winning duel last year. Even if they had a steady job on top of quake winnings, it is not easy to shell out 1,000-1,500 dollars.

Concerning my life, I don't live with my parents, and I have to pay for my studies (my last year though, 5th grade, and I don't think you mind about how much I have to pay for it).

Also, you always need to give % to the team (30% for Fnatic and so on). Thereby, It might be a huge prize amount of winning, but it is not as much as you guys think. It is already hard for me to ask and I really feel sorry if you felt offended.

If we didn't play back then , it's because Cypher had a really important thing to do for 2 weeks, so we played pickup with clawz at this time in order to improve our Teamplay.

Above I guessed that cypher's per annum income is around £10k per year. Now I don't know any more about his situation than you, maybe he's living at home but from that amount of money I'm not about to say "Cypher could easily pay for a room".

Strenx has only earned $40k from gaming in 6 years, that's £4.6k per year.

The point is that there are different ways to do things, and you went with the laziest/simplest one.

For once, the usual way to ask donations between other pro players in other games, is to start a Gofundme/kickstarter/whatever else crowfunding champaign.

It doesn't take much, and it's the most professional and clear way to do those things. People have a clear understanding of the rules and how the donation is going.

Plus you could have created some simple perks. Nothing too fancy, something like "donate 30 euros, get to pick one player of the team and play 30 minutes with him."
Or signing mice and mousepads. Or deliver custom group or single photos (no there's no double meaning behind it).

You'd be surprised how little it takes to make people enthusiast to donate.

Or you could have set up a twitch channel with overimposed donation bar.

Contrarily to what most streamers seems to believe, high definition stream isn't required, at all.
Most people watch those streams in the standard windowed mode, where a low res is more than enough and doesn't clog up the bandwidth or collapse smartphones.

Well Strenx, take a look at AVG for instance..

Fazz streams alot and is pretty popular. He puts in alot of time in streaming his clan games (pcw or pickups..), creates interest for the community and now has a good hand of followers.

He contributes to giving the community a good time and keeping it as alive as possible.

The result of this was that the donations came in very quickly and they raised all the money for travel + hotel expenses in no time.

It's all about give and take.. If you just expect to take all the time and never give then it is likely that you'll end up not getting what you are hoping for.

You have a certain fan club which you could count on if you'd put some time and effort into it.. I am sure if you had streamed alot and implicated the community in your progress, tournaments, clan games, and all the rest in general, you would have been popular enough to raise all the needed money here.

IG first searched for a sponsor and at least got their travel paid, before they came to esr asking for hotel money.

AVG on the other hand, had money for travel and hotel on their own. Even when 0$ would have been donated, they would go to QC. They didn't need the money, they just wanted more money. And since fazz is 2gd's bitch on reborn, he gave them like 1000$ in addition to the about 1000$ they got from other donators. That makes 2000$ or pure greed.

You are missing the point. I am not arguing about whether or not avg needed the money or if it was justified.

If anything you just emphasised on how right I am. If I follow your point of view then it means that even though avg did not need the money they still managed to get a lot of donations because of the way Fazz invests time into streaming etc... Whether or not fazz is an arse is totally besides the point. And if he is then that double emphasises on my reasoning above because he still reached his goal by being an are.

Again, you base this assumption on what exactly? Every single time i've seen him interviewed or streaming he looked down to hearth and available to any question. If you're referring to online drama, until about 1 or 2 years ago Cypher never raged online, and it only happens when playing one particular player, and only when playing that player online. On lan he's the chillest person ever, with anyone. With everyone else, he's cool.

You're wrong, indeed. Cypher is one of my favourite players, i like his style, his skills and i respect his achievements. I've even been one of the few to defend him when people like to bash him for no real reasons here.

Silencep, i don't really know much about him, i respect him, nothing against him.

Clawz, i like him, he's a young talent and could bring some fresh air between quake's old farts, but he has too little experience, both of lans and of high level team games.
Unfortunately your team is going to compete against the creme of the creme of Europe and America's best tdm and ctf players.

It has nothing to do with hating or anything. Just the cold truth.

Shall we remember your past year's shenanigans? I know you prefer we wouldn't.

You were inactive, but still asked for donations to go to quakecon, promising to train a lot and to deliver a great performance.

You didn't train and got steamrolled by anyone. Basically a paid vacation. We didn't hear anything from you, after that.

Just a year later, you're doing the same thing again.

But we're hating because we aren't throwing moneys to you, sure we are ;)

It's a point of view, which I respect. I stopped esports for 1 year for a personal reason (Some people react differently), then I didn't have the chance to get back to my real skill. (Trust me, I wish I could have my old skill, I really do)

We really try to improve our game. We talk on skype about any tactics that could suit us and work in game (Silencep help us a lot). We know what is working, what isn't, and we really believe that we will make something out of it.

I really do not want to debate about the vacation trip, which I think is really mean. (And I don't want to point a particular player but I can tell you that I know more than 99% people here about attitude of the players). You would be really surprised.

People tend to forget what I tried to do for the community (If you forgot, then no problem, I don't seek for recognition). My point is that I see a lot of players getting a lot of credits while they do not care at all about the community. (I won't blame anyone, I really do not want to debate there, it will be a no end discussion ^^)

We see the improvement of our pracc, and I know that when we will get this THING together, it will change drastically. This week will be a good train for us again!

some of us do recognize what you did don't worry ;) BUT this year and last year not showing training while you always could be a true contestant for the title is / was disappointing.

Maybe you just couldn't because of stuff going on in your life and people are indeed really mean. By talking that much to the community you expose yourself to haters, but you already know that.

I've gotta say I would've liked a format where you could have played duel, this time at your real level

The more i get older, the harder it is, it is my last year so I have a lot of work. That's why I prefer to focus on TDM. It would be not nice for clawz to steal the spot if I would have trained a lot on this for only 1 month

What you tried to do for the community?
Ok I forgot...

I can remember several projects where you wanted to get stuff from the community... But doing stuff for the community, nope don't remember anything. (Except maybe the few promotional videos you created to promote your lessons of like 20euro an hour (or more)?)

You are good at getting other people to help you though... People that do want to do stuff for the community.

Dunno if you know but most "of the community" out there actually invest a LOT into the game without ever seeing any positive return. In fact several only see negative (cash) returns as they go to lans while not being sponsored/help you to get to lans acting like sponsor/make stuff in their spare time/etc.
As in for most players quake is a hobby that costs money. You see it much more like a job which has to give you cash so you can get around irl. And thus everything you do must be compensated (in your eyes).

If you guys can't afford some of those prices, then you just can't afford to go. Stay home, and start saving up for next year, instead of waiting last minute, and begging on ESR.

Its funny Strenx isn't even asking for money for himself.. its for his teammates, and yet so many people here seem to be illiterate and start trash talking him

Personally I think Strenx is the only one who deserves any donations from that team, mainly because he's the only one with the balls to make the post and ask for help.

Also not impressed that Cypher, the champion, couldn't be the one to ask. I guess he is too cool for ESR but more than happy to take donation money

and for those saying strenx hasn't done much for the community.... anyone remember those cypher duel lessons......?
