Made a Part 2 to discuss some of the smaller titles

If the new games are not exactly like the legendary FPS games launched 15 years ago people will bitch and moan until the new games fade away.

Regardless of the quality of the new games, people will bitch and moan anyway. I think some of these new games have some staying power.

If they are the same as the games 15 years ago then people will complain that its doing nothing new, if its doing loads of new things people complain that its not the same as the games 15 years ago.

At least now we have some games being made that work off the old formula and some that are coming up with new ideas.

Halo5 right now has more interesting movement mechanics than UT4, who would've thunk?

i like how mainstream shooters are trying to incorporate movement mechanics all of a sudden (Titanfall, new CoD and Halo, Overwatch).
maybe a good compromise can be reached.

Maybe it has something to do with the rise of the amount of people playing on PC. When PC dominated so did these sorts of games, as console started to become dominant, so did miltary slower shooters, and now that PC gaming is getting bigger and bigger, more fast paced movement style shooters are coming out.

That could just be bullshit but the timelines line up somewhat. It could just be the nature of games companies trying to break the mould.

Fuckloads of fast paced crazy shooters in the 90s andearly 00s so devs try to break the mould by making slower realistic games, and now that we have a fuckload of slow realistic games its going the other way.

I dont know, but its a good sign and I hope it translates into good news for Arena FPS in some way

john romero is also working on a new shooter, who knows what'll await us there.

Yeah I heard about this. I am gonna wait until theres a name or some more confirmation before adding it to my list

iirc he was the one from ID who really enjoyed the art style of Doom and Quake so I hope he comes out with something equally dark/gory

There's so many upcoming multiplayer FPS games made by household devs that the genre is going to get as saturated as mobas, which is not good for anyone that isn't at the very top.
