Unlike the one you have linked, this post is not about begging money. The team behind this event has funded and organized the previous CPM Masters tourney on its own. It would be simply unfair to expect them to exclusively spend money on the second tourney as well.

Moreover, unlike the one you have linked, this post is about Quake 3, which is one of the most relevant games on ESR historically.

The idea here is that admins have to be consistent. If they accept a thread asking for donations then they have to accept them all.

And lets face it, you are indeed asking for money (half the post is about donations. The very word is four times there) and the supraball fundraiser is much more relevant here than some cpm tournament.

You are oversimplifying the posts to "asking for donations", while the admins actually know who the authors of this post are and which history of contributions to the community they have. That's why what seems inconsistent for you makes perfect sense for them.

I agree, we are asking for money. Again, you are overestimating the fraction of the post that is related to them (in fact, it is a dedicated three line paragraph in the middle and a couple of mentions in the beginning). The difference is, we are not asking for money for ourselves, and we even spend the money ourselves as well.

I don't see why supraball is much more relevant to be honest. CPM was always one of the major topics here but unfortunately does not produce too much content this days.

I understand your frustration, however this is a news portal, and although moderation is somewhat free-spirited, there is a consensus on certain items, such as formatting and context of major news sources, and it was agreed after Quakecon that pure crowdfunding/donation threads wouldn't get majored, that's all.

Also, in regards to "promotion" of the tournament: it would be dubious for us if we were somehow censoring all negative information about this tournament and the organisers (a la "Zoey Quinn"), but nothing of the sort is done.

Instead, the following happened: a third party created a news item on this tournament, it was edited and re-edited in order to apply for the format of Major threads (perfection of the format of the clickable "hide=" tags, resizing of the attached image (180x120 pixels), etc.) after which it was majored.

ESReality has no influence over choices done by third parties in the way they choose to organise their tournaments, and any potential financial donors can view the facts and opinions presented in this thread and make a personal decision whether they want to contribute to this upcoming tournament event or not.

The "respect for rules" as a universal thing that person either has or doesn't have independently on the circumstances is something you are making up. Zubich has shown that he can break the rules as a participant of a tourney, that is true. On the other hand, he has shown that he can define the rules for the tourney he is officiating and then stick to them no matter what. I was being you last time this tournament was to be held, I had the same arguments and doubts, but a guy I trusted asked me to play the tournament either way so I did.

The moment the tournament was over they pm'd me, asking for my paypal, and instantly sent the money. We don't even know the name of the said person (if he even exist) or any details about what's being funded. Of course people are going to raise questions.

Take this as advise for the next person for that job. There wouldn't be any drama if this whole thing was better done, for instance not directly asking for money at the very beginning of the post, designating someone trustworthy to begin with and all in a more transparent and responsible manner, instead of having someone as shady as the current one and you and others being all defensive so far.

Regarding the new PayPal account, it was created by me to collect the donations and send the prizes because my EU location and bank card provide lower fees compared to the organizers who are mostly from Russia. Fees were a big issue last time. I have never used PayPal, so I did not have a permanent account and plan to close this one after the tourney.

OK, I can explain once more. The issue is, zubich is the admin of both most of the latest CPM tourneys and half of the QL tourneys covered on ESR. No one has a single issue with that (especially with the latter). Now, we announce another event being early in the pipeline, and suddenly some people think zubich is unsuitable for the admin role. The fact that he is an admin of virtually everything else does not matter for them for unexplainable reasons.

You don't have any solid arguments, all you have is emotions. We have a huge selection of the tourneys held by zubich with no issues. A solid argument would be an example of a tourney he ruined because of his said immaturity.

I can easily explain how I will represent myself as the person in charge of the funds. Since I am not in any sense similar to e.g. myT, I won't mix the personal feelings and what we can call business in this context. If someone I don't agree with or I don't like wins, I still won't hesitate to do what I'm supposed to, i.e. politely request the address and send the prize.

For the sake of CPM, why not just elect another person to admin? It looks like there's already going to be some good players who won't participate. Whether or not they are right is beside the point: if you want best tournament, why doesn't zubich let someone else admin?

This is not arrogant. What is arrogant is the fact that you choose to ignore his QL experience (and the experience of the participants of his QL tourneys) instead of learning of his involvement, which can easily be done just by reading through ESR.

You forgot to mention that 34 aka master of predicions&movent&tactics aka zubich aka idol of young gurls has organised russian cups with prizepool like $50 for first place (which he funded himself) and then won cups by himself or ocassionally let ethad took first place not to arouse suspicion. Ofc smashing players like lunokhod-2 in finals. Cups were organised properly and im sure prizes have met their winners aswell. I wonder why didnt he participated in last masterscup. He should receive invitation due to being one of top russian cpmers.

Since we already had a TDM tourney, that almost worked, but also that was dominated by a single team, I don't know if TDM is the right choice. However, 2v2, and because it involves less players, can get much interesting, closer, but also more doable. Then I think that 2v2 would be a better pick than TDM.

Sad there are more comments here than there will be players in the tournament :(

If you want to generate interest in TDM again, get people playing it in pickups more and run some smaller TDM cups beforehand. Maybe even another draft cup?

2v2 has the biggest potential for good games because of all the combinations of players that could arise... in 1v1 or 4v4 the top 3 is known in advance, 2v2 on the other hand top5 at east would be open to many players

Well most #promode.ru cups last 3 years were made by zubich. So that's why he was supposed to be an admin in the first place. Not because he is some alpha wolf or w/e. So there is ru community who sees him as a good admin and eu who sees him as a filthy cheater. So it's kinda ru vs eu.

He could have either made smaller brackets, or, as you said just added 'TBA' to the brackets, instead he chose to make it appear as if other people have participated, and subsequently, lost.

Are you trying to say, that "success" of the cups is measured by amount of participants? And by adding some "Dead Souls" in the brackets this "success"-meter kinda goes up? And i would say no. "Success" is measured by amount of fun participants had and by the fact that this cup came to a logical end. Anyway we can't even make a 64-peoples (often even 32) bracket in Promode nowadays.

The fact you can think about an "opposition" is really pathetic. It's not an attack to the entire Russian community, it is against zubich but you decided to back him in group and you made it against your community yourself.

Furthermore, so far we said that we wouldn't participate in this if zubich was in (and we still don't have any guarentee that he won't). Don't be surprised if we don't donate yet.

Furthermore, myT has been contributing a lot in #cpmpickup in many ways, including money. And not everyone can afford spending €50+ in a community funding.

on a sidenote here, can someone tell my why cpma 1.48 client have severe fps issues? i tried completely clean config, it still dips to as low as 78 when just shooting mg. What setting is causing this. Plus cnq3 exe wont adhere to r_mode at all, even when menus say the right one, its stuck on 800x600. using q3.exe gamma ramp fails, when it works fine for other q3 mods?? what am i doing wrong?

1) delete all .cfg files from ./cpma & ./baseq3
2) cnq3 has only 2 values of r_mode 0 & 1

did that already, completely clean config, no leftover from baseq3. Still fps drops galore, something is not right, every other mod, 3wave, arena, osp are all good. quakelive is all good, even on new maps that give fps drops for many, but cpma wont work :/

i'm having a look in some docs that followed cpma, i though it was a common problem with a common solution, since completely clean config has this problem. thnx for trying to help

isomehow fixed it, might be connected to mouseinput, i vaguely remember something aobut it, using quake3e.exe now with in_mouse 3, seems to work.

i think when the duel pool of players was higher level, masters was high stakes. this is just throwing money around to fake hype a game that has lost a lot of competitiveness.

The game lost a lot of its popularity and player base, so we're trying to fake hype and solve that by throwing money, that's true. On the other hand, I can't say Masters 2013 was not competitive with HAL_9000 not making it even to the losers' final.

So any updates at this point? Has a game mode been picked?

We don't have that much money currently, so the only viable solution seems to be to stick to 1v1 as we did the last time.
