UT4 will be the next shootmania, devs will throw money at it and former quakers will make easy money, in 2 years it will be dead.

Reflex will be decently successful, winning almost 100% of the CPM playerbase and also some new following thanks to GRAFIX, but will ultimately stay a niche product.

Reborn will never see the lightn because 2gd has no clue on how to be on a strict schedule.

Quake Live on steam will get some new players for the lower tier, but the competitive scene will stay the same.

Warxon and REKT are jokes and in six months people will get tired of beating a dead horse.

I disagree about Reborn. I have a feeling it will be finished and released. I dont know if I will like it or not but I am betting on it being finished.

QL 2.0 will be released into Steam without matchmaking, chat channels, automated tournaments, hats or new maps. It will gain a lot of new players and lose them as quickly as with the release out of beta.

I do too, but honestly, isn't this the likely option? If we're getting anything, it's probably not enough. It's another 'release before ready' thing, and the 5 years since open beta release wasn't enough for id.

As far as I understand from the QL forums, Yakumo specified that the changes to the website, gameplay changes etc. will take effect before the launch on Steam.

Wait, if those changes are before steam launch, will this mean we can still launch from the standalone? Some people brought that up as something they'd like to keep, iirc.

Yeah, whether or not you choose to port your profile to Steam is up to you, so you can still use the standalone as far as I know :)

They could do some smart things theoretically, but considering that the first two aren't coming, even if they did it probably wouldn't matter. Unless entering steam is like getting into open beta every month for a year or something.

I think the arena shooter is just and outdated idea. Sorta like how those coop beatem up arcade games from the late 80s/early 90s are looked at as dated outside of a niche.

Don't really know how any of those projects are doing right now (reborn, reflex etc). Just hope that QL improves and brings in some new talents - although being realistic it's not possible to me - there's still cypher.

My moneys on UT4 and Doom.

If there isn't a new game that is exactly the same as Q3/QL or UT99 or one of the other good ones (are there any) nothing will change what so ever.

People refuse to move on. UT4 and other future releases will only fail if the community puts in a real effort to make it fail and if the devs do not push back harder to make it a success.

A LOT of people wanted to play quake 4 but went back to q3 because q4 was broken

quake3 and ut 99 aren't the holy grails of gaming that zealots think they are. both games can easily be improved upon for both the hardcore and casual fanbases.

THe problem will be if people are willing to let quake 3 go. It's time for that game to be retired.

It can only be retired when something better exists. Nothing rivals it and that is no fault of the players.
