Playtesting reflex will essentially be pointless no? It will play more or less exactly like cpm right? So if you want to test this game, your going to be on the lookout for a bugs and glitches. Too many people will want beta access in the hopes that they are able to influence the design...

they have said there will be differences from cpm and that cpm is basically just the model or starting point for the game so there would be new features/weapons/stuff to test and give opinions on

Reflex looks awesome to me but I'm afraid there will be no player base, cause the playerbase will be split between all these games. I mean in 2015 we'll have Ql, UT4, Doom, Reborn, Reflex and maybe some others.

I think only one of these games has the chance to get really big and i think Doom und UT has the best, because of the names.

Anyway I'll hope of these games will make it back to the big tournaments.

competition has to come naturally, you can't force it. the game has to be a success for all gamers, not just ones concerned with e-sports

Why does everyone expect players to grow out of trees? Stop comparing cpma/qw/wsw/xon sized communities with titles like QL/Unreal. Small communities have their own kind of benefits. If you like the game, be more collaborative in the community rather than just freeload and loiter from a game to the next, expecting triple A grade reception.

If anything I would imagine this little rumor comes from the early development video where ESEA makes a post, albeit more about arena's/quake in general. I could see how someone might think they're interested based off the comment, except they never do more than wish reflex the best, and it is more about quake. Even for a reply they mention they've been in contact with id before(never heard of this) talking about "quake 2.0". Which tbh we don't even know if it will happen.

Coming from a CS background and returning to arenas I am sorta glad you're making that choice with leagues. From past experiences some people/orgs become content when they are granted "exclusive deals" or certain attention from the developers. We all know this can lead to laziness and not the best product when there is no competition because it was handed to em. Not saying it would happen with reflex though I guess it doesn't matter based off what you're saying.

While I personally never had any issue with ESEA many people claim to have. You can ignore the whole bitcoin scandal as they've been known for shitty staff/support/reasoning in the past. Many people in NA don't like them in the CS scene, again albeit some of it is justified, some of it is not. Its still the most popular option because of their "client", tracking of stats etc, and the general higher skill levels of players. Plus their ladders/leagues/scrims are actually active compared to other services. Otherwise many say they would make the switch if anything else that could provide that came along.

If you guys are really sticking with that decision I am curious what some of the plans are for the competitive aspect of the game? In game ladders would be nice among other things. The concept of just only using irc to find pickups is kinda dead(not for quake but moreso the modern standard).

Though you mention it wont be exclusive you never actually denied if the game would be played in ESEA for a league or anything. Honestly wouldn't be surprised if a few leagues/services picked it up. Still I understand your reasoning and fully support it, makes sens imo.



Also best of luck with the success of the game. I am personally really excited and seeing the videos a few months back has made me start wanting to play arenas again. Cant wait for that kickstarter :)

I know they didn't yet, why would they? the game isn't public yet, a greedy company like esea aren't going to make any deals until they see what gameplay has the most potential out of all of these games then offer a deal. I just know that reflex is/was their top candidate and they wanted exclusivity.
an exclusivity deal would not be bad for the scene (quite the contrary if its with a reputable league like esea), at least if its an NA exclusivity deal you would be foolish to not take it, itl guarantee reflex to have a competitve scene over reborn,ut4, rekt etc etc and let's be honest that's all this game will cater to, competitive players that want esports backing

Pride has nothing to do with it. If an exclusive deal forced out even a single small competition with a $100 prize pool, that would be one less competition for the scene to play, watch and run.

We'd rather gain our foothold in the competitive scene by being a game worth playing and mastering with all the features needed by an esports title -- not by making exclusive deals.

The reason why CS:GO worked and not CSP is because CSP is the same old shit with alittle better graphics, but the graphics still sucks. CS:GO offers alot more, new and much better graphics, matchmaking, and skins that adds alot to the game. Also some new weapons and new balance around the weapons. You cant just have the same old game over and over, you have to add some essential stuff, for Esport and the game in general. CSP failed on both.

yes csgo has all that other shit but if they took the esea deal years ago I guarentee you csgo would not be nearly as big

and yes, as of recent day any small game with no financial backing that was really good failed in an esport sense, like CSP, warsow, hell even that tribes game I forgot the name of it that came out a bit before t:a failed that was much better than ascend, because they had no financial backing to back their main purpose -- esports
