how is the game now? it felt pointless after a bit last time i played it a year ago

I think the game is improved having come back after not playing for a long time. There's more variety in how you play and what you're doing, but at the same time it's still essentially all the same in that you're killing things for a chance at items to kill things more efficiently. There is a certain pointlessness to it but I still find it a fun distraction.

Same. I didn't play for over a year and recently started again, they definitely changed a lot of things for the better. Feels fun again! :)

With the new drop system and the expansion I love it more than I did when it first dropped. I still think the story is way too short, but with Adventure mode, online play is way more fun.

I logged in with my Barbarian, played the first area and immediately got super stacked, every item I found was better than the previous. It's ridiculous.

I'm playing Path Of Exile, defeating Dominus was the best thrill I've had in gaming for a long time.

All the things I enjoyed most in d2 were gone in d3 and when I saw the patchnotes like legendaries are untradable now I didn't even bother to buy the addon. Blizzard games have been shit for quite a while now. Props to activision)

I kind of liked what I played of PoE, I only clocked about 60-70 hours but I just didn't feel compelled to stay playing, I drifted away and didn't feel the urge to come back.

When was that? They have introduced a lot of new things, skills, tradeables, etc...
Items can be corrupted with Vaal Orbs, "modifying it unpredictably". It works on unique items, I just corrupted my Sidhebreath earlier today.

Some areas sometimes have corrupted sub-areas that you can clear out, like this one on The Ledge.

I was last playing in February. My problem was I was never sure if I was building my chars particularly well, which distracted me while playing. It felt like there was an overwhelming amount of stuff to learn, which I don't necessarily mind doing, but didn't feel like doing at the time.

I stick to the same character, I'm not into it that much to know what all the other chars need. I'm always playing as a summoner witch. Everytime I die is a new opportunity to do better than before. We never do normal league because it has no thrill to it.

That's pretty unlucky. I get lucky on sockets most of the time, when crafting Hallowed weapons for my Monk and Wizard it cost less than 5 souls to socket all 3 of them. But if I wanted to try and socket a Daibo to mess around with the Sunwuko 2 piece I'd probably need 1000 souls.

I've played a lot of Blizzard games, back in the day. Many years of D2, then WoW. I quit at the end of Wrath of the Lich King when the game really started going downhill - Blizzard's empty promises, 'carrot on a stick' method of nerfs and buffs, inability to really fix arena PvP and balance. So I decided to quit for good, despite optimism from a lot of friends about the upcoming expansion(s), which of course turned out to be more of the same shit, just worse and worse... (Pandaria, really?)

Anyway, D3 was an utter failure, I think that's common knowledge. It was fun for about a month, mainly due to friends. Second month they released RMAH, made a bit of cash. And that's about it, the game was kinda shitty, with no real endgame purpose.
You see where I'm going with this, just gotta be a little realistic.
Exp pack was destined to be the same shit moneygrab, with little improvements. A very sophisticated scam. And people refuse to acknowledge that, the Blizz fanboys are strongly in denial.
Don't get me wrong, if you're enjoying the game that's fine, but for how long - a week? It's overpriced. And it could be so much more and better, no depth.

Just play Path of Exile if you want a good ARPG tbh. Played it for about a year, got bored of it now. Had an amazing time though, great game with a passionate team behind it.

Even D2 ladder resets are fun, and require very little time. After ~14 years, it is still played. xD

but d3 is decent with this expansion. however i believe it was their intention to make d3 worse at first and cash in using the rmah, only to 'make everything amazing' with this expansion pack eventho it merely rivals d2 at best (which is, as you said, overpriced for just a very large patch tbh)

the same type of strategy commonly used by EA. lots of sugarcoating and then halfassing for max $$ and then fixing it so those dlc/exp.packs will seem like a great thing, while ultimately fixing the game it was meant to be in the first place.

Well, thats probably true.

Game mechanics is the only thing that's top-tier level (compared to other, similiar games).
The philosophy is that you mash a few buttons for hours so you can eventually mash them even more on other difficulty levels. Except you won't do it because you get better drops by farming easier mobs.
It's definitely not for people that hate doing repetitive tasks for hours and hours...
Anyway, I have decided that no endgame and no PvP = no more money for blizzard.

Don't misunderstand me - It's a fine game if you listen to some interesting podcasts in the meantime. You don't have to divide your attention (unlike in quake) while there is something to do for your fingers.

tried out path of exile, because of all the advertisements and talkign everywhere and it was named a real hardcore rpg in diablo 2 style or something ... just played 5 minutes ... just a worse off diablo clone imho., graphically and atmospherically its a lot behind diablo 3 imho ... maybe its a game for hardcore "endgame" rpg players, but not me

5 minutes and opinion made? I have to admit that POE in the first minutes feels very slow and "off", but if you go through your first 2 maps and find better boots, the sluggish feel goes away.

diablo 3 ... didnt play much since I played through the release on normal ... then the difficulty nightmare was activated and I think I played the 2 acts ... but couldnt motivate myself to continue playing somehow ...
its in the end just leveling up your character ...

the expansion also got me interested, but they want full price for it?
I also got myself the expansion heart of the swarm for sc2, which was almost full price, the cutscenes were top notch ... but game itselt felt a bit shallow, only played one third of it and dont plan to continue on it ...
wasted my money there ... dont want to waste money again ... its just an expansion, why pay 45 euro for it?

the last 2 games I paid for were clash of clans and hearthstone ... 9 euro each, because I play these games a lot and want to support the server infrastructure and gamedevelopment behind it ...
but 45 euro ... isnt it just a bit too much moneymaking from blizzard?
I am probably not too much a diablo fan to buy it for that price ... 15-20 euro I might pay ... but not beyond that ... just an expansion ... whats really in there ...?

The expansion should be free for people who bought this crap at release. It took them two more years for them to make the game worth playing. Even then you're still suck with a game that is too short, has a bad story, and is far too linear. D2 is still the superior game.

i dont really think you can make better hns than d2, even if i think one of the patches did destroy the gameplay. nonetheless d2 did set the standards, and its really fucking high standard
