In your position I would just not play games. Anything less than Quake is a waste of time, I think; just find the games you can and read a book in the downtime. Or just get a life and go out.

well cpm and warsow are pickups only, beside duel (and ca pub in wsw case). however, there's rlly not too much activity. i can speak of wsw majourly - sometimes it happens that u join a server and wait some mins without any sign of activity. that can piss u off rlly much. however, usually it is quite possible to get some (mid lvl) games.

you can however come to #warsow.pickup and ask for a duel

come #cpmduel @quakenet, we aren't many but there are different skill levels, contact any of the ops if you need the game, maps, etc... atm cpm is totally casual

WSW/CPM are more about movement and combat skills. QL is slower and heavier on timing, positioning, traps, etc.

Anyway QL duel isn't free, you need premium or pro. WSW/CPM are though so you could always just try them yourself, but you'll probably need IRC to help find games.

If you like the speed of WSW/CPM I'd recommend QW too. The weapons are interesting because LG is OP and has to be controlled like a major item and the rockets are fun because of how fast they are and how big the splash radius is.

Which of these games would you say is most newb friendly?

the one with bigger playerbase, probably wsw and it will "soon" be on steam.

- cpm is basically irc (atm: 69 users in #cpmduel, 122 #cpmpickup, 68 #uscpmpickup and 25 #promode.au, consider that players share channels and at nights it's more populated but anyway).

- qw has players who been playing the game for 16. I have no idea how many active players are but u need to love the game too much if you wanna join that club.

Yeah I heard wsw would be on steam like last year, but it seems to have stalled :( Whatever, thanks for the advice.

wsw should be on steam soon, that warsow developer got steam sdk a few months ago (january)

I would suggest to you either ql or cpm.

From trying the various arena-fps alternatives (WSW,CPM,QW,Q2,ETC) I got to go with QW as the best alternative to QL. It takes a big longer to get into compared to WSW or CPM but the movement system/physics and weapons just have really fucking good feeling to them.

Agreed, also it's pretty easy to get on an FFA game, I've joined quite a few in the past few days and not once was it empty oddly enough.

But it is much easier to find a duel match in QL. While you need to find a player by your self in wsw/cpm.

p.s. Wsw is going to Steam btw, mb it can boost its scene.
