Painkiller Hell & Damnation is on Unreal Engine 3. Overdose was just a mod wasn't it? Doesn't really matter since the games are all dead.

Until some years ago (if not to this day) PK keys were handed for free.

Had that game had better netcode, and maybe easier and more fluid movement, it'd have been much bigger competitive wise.

The net code was (most likely still is) just atrocious

you don't even have to alternate left/right to bhop

It's easy for 'us' but a big handicap for newcomers.

Anyway main point is netcode killed that game, which is a shame. It was pretty damn god.

i didnt play the new version from nordic.

what i read was, same bugs as in the original plus some new. original maps and addon were overworked and shortened. coloring is different. i have the feeling nordic is incompetent.

it actually made no sense to do a remake. the original devers, people can fly, were good.

i go with the old black edition. mp doesnt interest me, its dead anyway. only mods could fix the mp like pk++. it was the general problem with pk mp, online play sucked because of ping issues.

i think they didnt have enough skilled workers who could develop a next gen engine, or they left for other developers. the game is pretty good, but i guess that plus the fact that devs are from poland where its hard to assemble a good well payd team for nextgen development. they did make bulletstorm but its not their sole work, i tried painkiller looks so so tbh, the engine looks well made for 2004 and quake live style game, unfortunately no new engine development.

oh sorry i was entirely speaking of Painkiller: Hell & Damnation from publisher nordic.

yeah i saw it, looks like ut3 is still better, i dont really see how its fun if its on the same engine as ut3. it makes all games feel the same

there is also the new rise of triads that i wanted to buy that looks more fun

nobody understands that a game lives from a engine and gives it character. to use ut3 engine for painkiller sounds stupid the reason: console compatible.

you can buy it, its the most oldschool game (mechanic, leveldesign) in the last 10 years. i had fun. played it after the first bigger patches!

but. even after they fixed 2000 bugs (no joke), its buggy, unoptimised, textures are missing. if you can live with that, its for you. multiplayer is ofc dead and never started off.

i was talking about a painkiller sequel that they never made. they seemed it to shov it off to modmakers after the orginal game came out, nothing but mods released as addons.

i think people can fly was interested to do other titles. they really had potential. could be that they felt to young to milk an ip. bulletstorm was financially a flop, but some things in it set a mark. the kill streaks were copied for example in other games.

its sad that there became game fixer (gears of war ports). i saw this sometimes with good new studios. at least some of pcf work at flying wild hog, which brought us 2 good games (hard reset, shadow warrior 2013).

the funny thing. first there is a joowood marketing guy, and the guy has absolutely no idea, saying they overwork the mp, patches will come (did they come?), they would do lans and support the community (sure...), beta test with sk gaming. hes saying what people want to hear for a revival. bla bla bla.

and then a player called mason is playing (arrives at 0:38). mason is real, talks about bugs, has knowledge. all other is pure stupid advertising. i remember (i think) mason asked the marketing guy in an q&a, but its not in the vod anymore.
