yep, this was a good reminder of how annoying an FPS can get.

Silly Instant-kill Weapons & Headshots, the Movement, Dodge-button.

The only thing I appreciated from this serie so far was UT2K4 music.

Terrible weapons and godawful movement physics, but still fun to play for the lulz, I have to admit.

edit: On second thought after playing so much quake I probably wouldn't even find it fun for the lulz anymore, but back in the day UT was certainly fun for the lulz.

deck16 diddnt work in unreal, ut99 or the later titles. Why would it work in quake?!

lets see this. there is a handfull of good ut2k4 movies with good picture i remember.

a non-player like me thinks its a wellmade short movie. i cant say much about the frag quality, skill, situations but it seems they are good. sometimes i dont get what game mode it is. it could be more epic (music, known player, important match, showing healthbar).

when you look at your demos you can activate wallhack to see where the opponent is , i think this is it.

there is no ut pummel.. its a bug with a stair case and shield gun.. sometimes u kill an opponent and sometimes your character simply suicides..

SG primary = pummel nab

sg primary is sg primary ... and pummel is pummel u nab.. and when u check the video than u can see that he never used primary..

Esr isnt a place for anything else then Quake. Saying otherwise is just lying to yourself.

the site slogan is esport in general. all kinds of games. in theory. its possible to write about dota2 here, that isnt even a fps game.

in praxis the site contains much q3/ql. not much quakeworld, quake2. so we are not even a quake site in general.

look, 1-2 good game movies are released a year. from warsow, ut2k4, xonotic, other arena shooters. thats not much compared to q3/ql output. it wont hurt you. if you didnt like it = ignore/use site filter settings.

we (oldschool fps players) must stick together. the fps scene has changed with cod & bf to casual/pub matches/different gameplay mechanics. big esport is now other game genres. we are dinosaurs in the world of fps/esport and we need our strength for other problems.

Yes, we must stick together. not split up into alot of dead games.

Im not saying you cant post it here, but youll get a lot of unnecessary hate etc.

I'm sorry but I think you are wrong here. ESR is the main Quake site for sure, but it always had more than just Quake stuff. Also, I would not diss on other FPS, especially on UT, which is one of the closest games to Quake (if we exclude the clones).

Not to mention that there used to be decent UT coverage on this website... until the game died :D

3 and 4 were just showcases so other companies can buy engine.

But looking from this frag movie, I must say...UT mapmakers have serious problem with scales...all maps are way too big. It's always been like this for UT world, but....nothing beats Quake imo. :P :)

like it! played ql for some time but nothing competitive.. dont have time for that anymore.. but 1v1 is certainly different.. i think quake is harder to master than ut, at least the level i have seen at last quake con

As a heavy UT3 player,an occasional 2k4 player and now discovering ql (first quake ever) i very much appreciate it (especially ctf).
Yes it's a LOT different from what i prefer but DESPITE some kiddos here, my parents learnt me to say "i don't like" instead of "it's shit" because if u go from this path, not a single game on earth is nice then =) , and behalf the millions of UT players that enjoyed, enjoys and will enjoy EACH iterations, i'd glady address you(this young dude saying it's no place for ut here) a sincere "FU narrow minded fanboy ;)".
I appreciate a lot Quakelive because it brings me challenge and new things to master, it still also helps me in UT3 about some particular aspect of the game that i didn't think much important (like the "on-the-ground-dodge that does wonders even in UT(3) if u use it correctly).

I always considered schematically, if i may say, UT and Quake like enemy brothers, they are paradoxically so different and so identical that they might don't like each other much but they have the deepest respect also for each other.

I'm really surprised by some dudes reactions :/ ... Even if i blatently know this site is quake oriented, i thought more had objective/good tastes x) ...

To be honest, when I encounter guys that are looking into some competitive FPSes, I always suggest Quake first.

Then I mention UT because as you said, I might personally hate a lots of gameplay elements from it or even the engine, but I still give it some respect since it is pretty much one of the only other FPS that still attempt to stick to what make an FPS challenging.

Then I usually suggest some tactical shooters before going in the mindless shooter zone.

In summary, what you are observing here is just the usual hate for the game but I wouldn't say that anybody are really saying "hey, don't bring that stuff over here" At least, I would like to thinks so.

As most of the others pointed out, this site is about eSports and even if we personally dislike some of them doesn't mean we dont really welcome them.

Basically, it's just like whining to LoL Players that they should play Dota 2, Starcraft 2 players that they should play SC1 or WC3, Mortal Kombat players that they should move on Street Fighter. You will always see these kind of remarks when articles related to them are posted, it is just stronger over here against UT due to the Quake Community mostly being in full force.

So when someone say "ugh UT", in reality what he deeply mean is :
"Come join us in Quake, come show your appreciation for the Ultimate FPS eSport" lol :P

I just cannot figure out what is with the simple mouse/head turns that looks so differently bad from quake... It feels like a bad sensitivity mixed with dead cam. Extra high sens with 0 acceleration? So weird. Typical feeling of a new game.

Also, UT jitters.

Because Zabivalkin has 5cm mouse sensitivity i guess. My sensitivity is about 18cm, so frags from my POV must be look more smoothly.

Am I the only person on this site that preferred Onslaught over regular play? In general terms ut2k4 had very well made and fun entirely different gameplay mods from the disc (onslaught, assault, bombing run, domination, a long etc.), which isn't the case in any quake so far (tdm is hardly a mod), and some community made content was spectacular as well. In other terms, what I liked the most about ut2k4 was not the UT portion but the immense variety it offered.

I'd go as far as saying ut2k4 is the best arena fps game ever from the disc (games are reviewed at release date) and with the most content, and now I'm reading it only cost $30 to people that already owned ut2k3. I still have the box somewhere, with I think 6 cds.
