In practice, the benefits of running Lightboost in 2D mode are very overrated from a competitive standing, it might look 'clearer' but it won't make you better/worse at FPS games providing you're already running a high refresh rate gaming monitor with low input lag. You'll find that many competitive players revert back to running 144Hz rather than 120Hz + Light Boost simply because the trade-off in colors/brightness/flickering isn't a good one when you're playing for 5+ hours per day, that and input lag in many ways is more important than 'zero motion blur' for tracking opponents. Lightboost is a great step in the right direction, but it's not the finish line.

If you can't get an LG W2363D or Viewsonic VX2268WM... pick up an XL2411T. The XL2411T isn't ideal as the ghosting without lightboost isn't dealt with as well as the other two... or as well as it should be anyway... but there's no alternative without looking toward the more expensive VG248QE (still not great, plus has worse colors), or Samsung 750/950D (great, but increased input lag at ~12ms).

If you don't need 1080p and can find the 1680x1050 Viewsonic VX2268WM as new and/or in good condition, i'd buy that. The lower resolution means more FPS in games away from Quake, plus imo it's a fantastic monitor with good pixel response and low input lag. I would still use it over the BenQ XL2411T if it was not a requirement that i have 1080p for streaming. The VX2268WM is certainly better than Samsungs first 2233RZ.

1080p is not necessary for me. And ill buy it as new.

How much they go for now? I bought mine 4 years ago for $300+ and it has served me VERY well =) still good as new and input lag feels like 0ms!

Well considering u are from canada and that europe pays 30 % more id say the price is about the same here. But its probably a lot cheaper there.

the vx2268wm went as low as 230 usd before being discontinued/oos.

Even without lightboost you won't be able to tell the difference between a CRT and this unless you really look for it. Safest bet ever, just go for it.

i dont think so. only hardcore gamers heard about smoother picture. the clueless sellers in retail stores tell the customer something about 3d to this day. "if you want 3d than take this".

think about overdriving os2 to 200hz und usb port to 500hz for faster shooting in online multiplayer. it is a long time around and but it took quite some time that the mouse manufactors built it in the driver software.

120hz makes quake just more enjoyable and smooth.
95% of lan attenders has 120hz or crt. but decisions > aim.

Amen! I found a sony trinitron multiscan 100es that will do 120hz at 640 x 480 at a flea market for 3 dollars.

i got for free monster CRT 19" that can do 120hz at 1280x1024 :P

A lot of people can't afford the new and modern benq xl24, especially now that older models are more affordable.

I recently got myself an asus vg248qe that i'm running @ 120hz with lightboost on, it's certainly a step closer to the old CRT quality but man, the colors are fucked up in LB. Had to tweak my nVidia settings a lot to make it somewhat bearable. A good thing about this monitor, if you're a cpm player like me (cpm has no visible timer during matches), the monitor's OSD has a built-in timer, hax!

I loved LB till I turned it off, I felt a HUGE different in mouse (benq xl2420t). it was much smoother and more responsive with LB off, such a shame because visually it was amazing. I had some weird lines on the top right of the monitor when I have LB on too.

I read somewhere on the blurbusters forum that the benq has 5+ ms response time when LB is enabled, because it disables the monitor's acceleration engine (pixel overdrive). With LB off and the overdrive engine enabled you'd have 2ms on that model afaik (correct me if i'm wrong).

xl2420t is worse than 144hz 24" asus/benq models even in terms of LB

yeah at the time though I think there was only one 144hz panel and it wasn't the best so I made my choice. now it's almost like 144hz is the "norm" for higher hz monitors. CONSUMERISM

In the end io couldnt find the mentioned above LCD's, so i went with the peoples choice: BenQ XL2411T.

I have to say, putting a 60hz monitor next to the BenQ, makes a huge differece in justifying the buy.

Although this needs some color correction, since the default FPS mode is very desaturated.
