Funny how most of these maps don't seem to have distinct rooms with tight entrances. I wonder how hard it would be to defend ourselves and use rockets.

Well, McSarge's is pretty cramped around the RA while being open at MH, I imagine it would be more of a rocket heavy map.

You can always change the sizes of doorways, edges, rooms as well as layouts of the map

chastity belt duel should be added to ql, cmon, it is a famous q2/q3 map which was used in tournaments such as Q-con...

The only benefit of adding that is nostalgia of 0.1% of players. It isn't suitable anymore, if it was in first place, and very few remaining players remember it fondly.

The idea is getting new maps to play, not old ones that no one cares about. Think of it as a less relevant tourney2.

If I ever host a cup (lol) I would do it with all lan maps available, except almost lost and trinity (ca3). No bans just picks, like 12 maps in the pool so people can innovate if they want (not forced like a 5 maps pool with 2 or 3 new maps).

My idea there was to pick maps from authors who have at least 1 map already added to QL (I've tried about fifty maps I believe), in order to avoid legal issues or w/e.

It's not only about map authors though. Some maps can use textures with non-commercial licenses.

The issue with Hipshot is that he has a job in the industrie and probably can't work with id because of that. (iirc)

This map reminds me of something...

God I miss maps being simple with wide spaces where you can move basically in "defrag mode" and beatiful textures like T4 or dm6. Nowadays even corridors are so tiny that makes u wanna scream: Wth is wrong with map designers (are they all playing Counter Shit Strike ?).

The simplest map in QL "Eye to Eye" it's designed like shit and you are surprised why people are still loving "Longuest Yard" and "Arena Gate" ? The latest achievement of ID Software in bringing worthless maps are "Repent", "Sinister", "Terminatria" or Q2 remake "Warehouse" and the list goes on. Omg what disasters.

Remember "ID", Quake WAS and IS all about freedom and fluidity of player's movement, speed and simplicity when it comes to map design. I know, I know, I missed BALANCED for duel maps, but I really am missing the points above.

And btw this is not a troll , it's me raging against most of the maps in QL pool who are so stupidly overcomplicated and textured like shit or "like a mosaic" for the intellectuals.

ID Software used to have cutting edge artist-designers, now they just convert maps, no innovation.

Take dm6 as an example, the map doesn't have shitty boxes, ledges, windows, overly complex textures, it's just a big old round room with pillars. And it's also fun as hell to run around the map.

I will also add that the map's texturing it's the same as the arhitecture, too much details. Thank god there is "r_picmip" command.

Check this picture as example from map "Terminatria", which btw is not that bad compared to other maps.

My movement (and 'sensi') are atrocious in CPMA vq3/cq3 so maybe it's not obvious at all from the videos but minus perhaps pukka3tourney5, which I included mainly because that map was played during the OSP era, all the other maps have a nice flow IMO. And half of them are 'large', you can 'defrag' on it actually :)

I agree. Even with Cure ppl think it's not enough like ztn and want more tight spaces for "rocket defense".

you listed ONE duel map, and whats hilarious - sinister is ok movewise, it has like 4 straight lines of moving...

and basiclly - learn how to move, not whine on maps.

That's because I don't see other maps closer to my preference than dm6 or T4. I could add 2 more maps that I personally like but they are not so good on duel (hiddenfortress and almostlost).

Sinister is not "ok movewise" :
- some doors are too small in height.
- I really don't see some fast routes through map's corridors. You always kinda have to stop a little to change direction. And that extra little speed in movement is essential for the rushes to an item or to make a surprise attack and by lacking those 'Sinister' becomes boring in my opinion. Eventually people will learn to move fast but only by not bumping into walls or other stuff.

I agree that I suck at movement, maybe that's why I like simple maps.

it is curious that ql tries to implement entirely new maps rather than oldschool maps. im not sure what to make out of it but i think there should be a healthy symbiosis of a selected q3 gathering and inovational maps. (e.g railgun pickup sound)
