Finally a movie for him!

Although, I was not expecting such a laid back style of film - it definitely suits Rapha as a person although I was expecting something more 'epic' to match his accolades. Wax tailor = fantastic, but maybe could have put more energy in to it instead.

I was kinda underwhelmed by this. When I saw the title, and the subject, I was hoping for something akin to the Cooller 2010/2011 movie, in the sense of creating a movie unique to the playing style of the player.

In the case of rapha even the title suggested this might be the case, so I was expecting to see a lot of tournament moments where he displayed brilliant tactical decision-making, outsmarted opponents or escaped from scenarios with low health due to on-the-fly health/armour calculation.

Instead this is basically just a straight fragmovie, but starring rapha. I really didn't find many of the frag sequences to be anything exceptional, they were just good the majority of the time. As a result this ends up being almost a perfect test case example of a 7/10 movie for me, above average but nothing extraordinary in any sense of the word.

I also felt like the soundtrack sucked the atmosphere out of the movie, there was no energy to it and I just sat back watching rail kills and rockets etc.

To be fair I can't say I'm entirely surprised, the other two movies I remember seeing by Justin (DaHanG 2010 and Stermy x}) were basically similar affairs. A good watch, but nothing that sends shivers up the spine.

The 60 fps version is worth the download.

Also it hopes it puts to rest any controversy over how good motion blur could look, at least theoretically if it could be made in real time. 60 FPS and it looks as smooth if not smoother than 125 in-game.

top notch quality and edit, and normally i'm not the one to bash on soundtrack cause it's mostly subjective, but this music just doesn't fit this movie in any way, even if there were some nice syncs to it.

also there were some questionable frags, i think rapha had plenty of frag movie worthy frags better than some that made it in.

cfg is great, nice fov, only thing missing was q3 style gibs :)

and i think everyone knew when rapha movie was eventually made that this is how it would be called :)

gave it 8/10

Flow was nice. Really suits raffers persona imo. Watched the 60 fps version. Quality was very nice. Everything was smooth, cleaned up. Love the lightning enhancements.

Quality edit. I love Wax Tailor but I wonder if the song choices were the best. It does give the movie a unique feel, so I'm indifferent. Frame blending isn't that great, especially in some scenes.

But the editing, frags and flow of the movie is superb, so it makes up for everything else :)

good movie, but just good. the cooller movie, which is also done by tp, is epic, while this is just good.

rapha as a legend in ql professional scene there are too few epic moments in competitions with live casting in the movie. for this kind of movies tense moments in competitions means much more than eye-candy frags. in cooller movie there are plenty of these, even though cooller wasn't that successful in ql than rapha.

as for music choice, it's kind of weird for me as i don't feel anything related to rapha or his frags with the music. in cooller movie the music is just so fit that it touches me every time i watch it. but this one just lol.

Rapha deserves nothing less than the best movie ever upon release. This is not the best movie ever.

Noob motion blur emulation (seriously, 6 blended frames? How did you come up with this idea and this number?) and hit beeps changing from descending to ascending and back randomly I've noticed immediately on first seeing.

Also, since you already included commentary and media from IEM and QC, surely there wouldn't be a problem to include fragments of Cooller's ESL Classics episode where the "zis is rapha" phrase came from. Otherwise the title is meaningless to most viewers.

Otherwise, this is rapha. Amazing content in this movie. Maybe not wasted, but I expected more polish.

i know perfectly well what blur means and that people tend to use it to mask something of lower quality.. i just cant see where blur becomes an obstacle in this video. not to deny there is no blur because there probably is a little bit. (ive watched the 1080p60 version btw)

I have already mentioned that most people won't even recognize the problem being there. I understand more than well that I'm one of the very few complaining.

In the past I've been called a retard for saying a movie cam rip is unwatchable, I'm already used to being insulted by people who in my eyes are visually impaired ;)

The argument with h8m3 here however was whether I'm more retarded by judging quality of the YouTube version while a downloadable 60 FPS version is available.

I just don't think it's excusable to produce a crap version for 95% of the viewers, even if the version viewed by 5% is free of the problem (if it is, which I doubt).

It's different judging a picasso in person than on a .jpg in your cellphone, or a movie on a cinema instead of a cam version. The best, the real quality impression is what matters the most and if you care about quality you get the quality version.

Youtube does not do justice to a single quake movie, especially the ones recorded in 45 or 60fps and/or with motion blur. The rapha movie is vastly better in the downloadable version, no comparison. With interwebz speeds being so fast nowadays and with lots of hdd space for a penny, there's no reason not to download the best quake movies released every year.

Same goes with streams as well. Watching a demo or gtv > 1080p stream > 360p stream.

its neither codec problem or some kinda setting.

vlc uses cpu acceleration, media player classic uses gpu acceleration
so when you cpu aint stronk you always gonna get more fluid stuff out of mpc.

10/10. One of the best frag movies I've seen. Great soundtrack. great looks, PERFECT amount of motion blur and fov, awesome use of camera angles, great audio sync (not too much, not too little).

Like the commenter above, I didn't get the wowz feeling, but I've no doubt the frags were the best rapha had to offer, so no points come off for that. Just a pleasure to watch.

Its very good movie. I liked ! Great job.

Has very good flow, and music fits in perfectly. Small details in it made it so much more enjoyable (doing rocket jump after a frag on one map and insta switch to him mid air rocket jump on next map for next frag, same with dropping down). Movie is full of stuff like that.

Only negative i would say is that movie itself gets little overbright on some maps (t4 most noticable).

Excellent job overall. Gave it a 10

Rapha is decision making, tactical understanding and trickery, not flashy frags. I found the movie to be well-made but underwhelming, does not really highlight what exactly is so amazing about Rapha. Still a good watch.

Well everyone already knows that Rapha is synonymous with tactical perfection and decision making, so I'm guessing the moviemaker just wanted to highlight that Rapha can be just as dangerous as Cypher in raw combat too. But yes, adding some tactical insight of Raffer's plans would have been ideal.

Rapha is definitely a chill dude so i think some hiphop beat suits his movie perfectly but the first song was just way too chill for quake in general. The second song was $$$ tho.

Other than that it feels like a "frags by Rapha" than a "Rapha movie", could have been edited better and sure does missing some glory moment, i mean afterall Rapha is the guy who pretty much played at least in 80% of all Quake Live finals. This kind of editing makes it more like hes just a top16 LAN regular or something.

Everything else was perfect tho, big up Shane / Justin.

errh basic idea to match the gun pos at any fov is to add +3 to cg_gunz when using 16:9,

http://emsai.net/projects/widescreen/fovcalc/

That tool will calculate the fov you want.

so +3 on the gunz value and convert using that fov calculator to get the same look as 4:3 when using 16:9 in Q3 or wolfcam.

on 16:10 it's +2
