We tested it, but you never know. Own3D worked fine for everyone of the staff too. So the only real test can be done on Sunday.

Yes, it's indeed better to pull Quake away from various channels. I suggest we remove all Quake related videos from Youtube and rehost them on Twitch.

twitch is by far more popular than own3d, including quake streams, so "we" don't lose much by quake not being on own3d.

Roy, don't even doubt that twitch is better than own3d - it's REALLY better in every way u put it. The player, the vod recording, the quality switching - twitch does what own3d don't.
Ofc, u might consider changing some picmip;) (like 5 or smth - just to make things perfect), but believe me (and check it out urself) - twitch is a much more comfortable platform for viewers AND streamers.

I just stated that censorship isn't "insane policy". Firstly it isn't insane - it's works very well for malicious purposes.
Secondly I believe that it's important to call such things by they real name. This is what the totalitarian regime doesn't want you to do. There are many "insane policies" in my country but there isn't censorship.

Twitch is the best if you want Quake to be noticed by people who don't know about it.

I only had problems with own3d when i brought the UI up, otherwise it worked fine. Let's see if twitch lags (lagged all the time for Dreamhack stream)

Interesting. While i dont love Own3d (I mostly dislike their horrible video player - It can only be described as a sad joke. Never had connection issues with them however.), having everything on twitch is terrible for the streaming community. A monopoly is never good for the users.

With the way things are going, i have no doubt own3d will be dead within 12-24 months. Who can provide competition for twitch? It will be interesting to see what happens when youtube rolls out its streaming feature, but AFAIK very little info has been released so far. It does not appear to be ready anytime soon. Maybe ustream?

own3d has better live stream but shit vod system. on the other hand, twitch has a shitty live stream most of the time, but at least vods you can seek. not that anyone watches ql vods tho...

Yeah, it doesnt make sense that 720p streams smoothly for me on Twitch and 480p sticks like crazy on Own3d :/

Well there were times where i couldnt stream 240p at all on own3d with a 90 mbps line.. :D

Someone said earlier no more faceit for them, because they couldn't watch the Live stream..lmao. Look it up later and watch uninterrupted. No difference than the stream, other than being live(which doesn't matter), and less lag!

Maybe others are experiencing this too, but I can't signup. Nothing happens if I click the sunday cups link at the face-it site. Or has the sign-up closed already? THought it would be 14 to 15 for sign up and check-in?

why do the russians need a separate stream though? hardly any of the viewers are native english speakers and you dont see them complaning about not having a say, swedish stream.

faceit should actually build a studio in moscow, and hire russian casters... this way both sides would be happy?

4ce, the russian streamer of faceit, is living in small town near saint-petersburg, has his own "studio" with wall-sized boobs poster, has comparable (sometimes more) viewers count and works, as i understand, for free.

i really don't understand, why faceit didn't let him stream anymore. another studio would be an overkill.

You do understand this would mean they're going in circles and no matter which streaming they pick someone will always tell them to switch.

For me it only lags on 720+.
720 is perfect, while on Own3d I had lags on 360 and 480/best looked like 240.

Twitch is perfectly fine, stop complaining just because the highest quality isn't perfect (yet).

Not allowing Russians to have a stream of their own might be a good idea for the first few weeks on twitch - QL needs to be promoted and there's no way twitch.tv is going to feature a stream with 400 viewers on the main page.

The fact that we can rack up to 1400 viewers if we centralize all viewers is great. If the supposedly dead game can reach this kind of numbers for a simple sunday cup, we're doing just fine.

However, giving people more options is always welcome.
Maybe someone has some streaming issues with twitch, maybe someone really dislikes picmip 0, maybe someone just wants to listen to stream in native language... there's no point in limiting the already small and limited community.

That's why having an alternative stream, be it Russian or non-casted shouldn't harm anyone - but latest weeks only racked up half of those numbers so it's up to us to decide - either centralize and show up in bigger numbers or spread across 4 different streams and show up with 300-400 viewers on main stream.


This thing could somehow work if you had the main stream, the russian stream and the non-casted stream all on the same page, accumulating the same numbers of viewers.

russian stream had slightly lower bitrate, but high picmip, so it was smooth looking and less stuttering. not to mention that picmip 0 official stream is unwatchable on less than 720p (just look at that horrible squares of 480p! can't see anything there, but high picmip even on 360p is actually looking rather good).

also, i think, there will be a lot of syncing issues for commentators, because at some points there will be buffering, which fucks up paralleling events completely. video usually has delays, audio - not so much. syncing video to commentator, then syncing it with his voice, then passing it on for viewers is a hard process. if it was gtv, then there would be no problem. but it's not gtv.

but even if we somehow overcome syncing, streamers are a little directors themselves, so they are want to change pov, show accuracies, or show their glooming faces sometimes. we shouldn't deny them that possibility.

We're announcing them coming days, no one new today.

So the maps are Campgrounds, Blood Run, Lost World, Furious Heights and Dismemberment. We can't pick any more maps, because players will have to practice even more nowadays uncommon maps. This was all decided together with the players.

Twitch worked perfectly for me. To those whom are complaining there are three possible solutions to your predicament:

1. Get better hardware, specifically the CPU
2. Get more bandwidth on your connection
3. Both

don't you know about routing issues? having 100Mbit/s connection doesn't guarantee you normal viewing experience, because somewhere on that way can be packet drops.

and many people can't solve that by changing their internet provider, because in some locations all ISPs have connection limitations. geography have a huge impact on whether you can watch hd stream or not.
