QL lag issues with Windows 8 (37 comments)

I'm having an issue with Quake Live where my FPS is 125 but it somehow feels like 25. As long as I'm standing still, the view is perfect when I look around, but the faster I move, the worse the lag gets.

Anyone else having this issue?

It's not an option to use XP or 7, I can't use Linux to stream because I haven't finished the streaming software yet.

I'm using Win8 Enterprise 64Bit.
i7 3770k, plenty of RAM, etc..

Being honest at the moment it has slightly less to offer, I don't think anyone's found a way you can up the usb rate.

But it basically is windows 7, I do enjoy the quicker boot time. I don't use metro apps at all, I haven't found anything worth using.

win 8 should make no problem, except to adjust the mouse usb polling rate for WMOs!

Can you post a condump, specs of the system, graphics driver used, and so on?

Do you experience the same problems in other FPS or even RTS, where the viewpoint changes rapidly?

edit: Have you tried to ask the QL support team either by E-Mail or via their forums?

some order gpu's don't use all of win 8s features correctly/not supported. ie any ati card thats not 5000+ . Not sure which nvidia cards. just google it

I have removed my config and did a reset on the QL site. This made the lag go away. Then I fiddled with the standard config to create a new one and so far no more lag.

If anyone is upgrading from 7 to 8, keep this in mind.

Win 8 :)
funny but that's the first edition I think I will avoid completely, forever. Win7 for games right now, other than that I just use Linux. I only play older games anyway...

edit: not trying to say it's super bad or anything. Just how everything comes to an end, at some point. (in this case for me)

The gap between 7 and 9 will be a lot bigger than 7 and 8 in terms of compatibility. If you think Microsoft will drop Modern UI then you are wrong.

Windows 7 has extended support until 2020, so it's possible to completely ignore 8 and 9 for quite a while, and then move on to whatever will be available then and is not MS Windows.

then again, they will probably make it work better instead of just different from normal. Skipping Vista and ME both worked out great, i doubt 8 would break the combo.

oh, I was only talking what Win8 means for me personally. Modern UI doesn't work for me. I'm a classic desktop man. And I don't really know about compatibility, I haven't even researched it, but I believe what you say might as well be true.

And with Valve pushing Steam and games to linux, because of the app store that microsoft wants for win8, plus micro$oft offering DX11.1 only for win8, that add features already available on OpenGL, the future seems bright for linux as a gaming platform.

Windows 8 here, no lag, QL works fine.

And regarding interrupts - what I did before in windows 7 manually using IntPolicy tool, it does automatically. Perhaps, the first core is not thrashed anymore with ISRs and DPCs calls, and rest of cores are quite evenly used.
