I agree its a great non rail map, ranks right up there with Lost World. It actually is a great substitution for dm13 on map pools.

I love t9! Similar to aerowalk in the sense that the map has more than 3 dimensions because of the teles. IT'S LIKE FOLDING SPACETIME!! Also it's one of the few non-rail maps (dm13 is the only other good one that comes to mind). I wish it was in all map pools.

Can anyone elaborate why they find this map ... competitive?

All I've seen is people claiming it's fun to play.
I'll give you that, dm17 can be "fun" too...

But what about other qualities?


To me it seems like plasma/rocket spamming and teleport dancing.

Anyway I'd like to see targetquake in EU - I enjoy watching the stream from non-established maps played by higher tier players.

So when it comes to maps they are obviously competitive because there is a winner or a loser. When it comes to House of Decay, it is a competitive map due to the fact that it has many different aspects to it. There is a large open room with a bait point for the mega in the lower water hole. There is a few smaller rooms with items that are strategically placed in order to defend yourself when you first spawn. and there is also a large kind of hallway that you can spam plasma down in order to kill your enemy. Also there is three different portals which allows you quick access/escape from certain situations.

I think the main reason why a lot of people don't like this map to much is because it doesn't have rail. Rail is the main reason in my mind why a lot of the maps we have done recently are not popular in competitive circles but these maps also have many different skill building techniques for duelers! If you want to become good at dueling some of these maps are key to learning the proper weapons to use in certain situations. Or how to bait someone from a safer location, by spamming nades.

If you ask any pro gamer I bet you they could name off two or three non mainstream maps they have played a lot and learned a few different techniques to playing.

t9 is crap competitively, tele dancing is all there is to it, get 1 frag and keep teleporting till u get a telefrag, repeat

its mostly about keeping precise timing on the yas/mh and using rocket/pg spam EFFECTIVELY to cut off or do damage at the teleport locations. positioning comes down a lot to judging how much damage you did with spam.

ps: teleports can be used to attack just as effectively as to defend. it all depends on how u play.
