Cyber Sports Network is proud to announce a tournament like no other, with their first StarCraft II / QuakeLive Free For All Cup. 32 StarCraft II players will compete in a QuakeLive + SC2 Tournament to determine the first SC2/QL Champion!

The Winner of the deathmatch stage of the event will receive a 1 month Premium Subscription to QuakeLive. The top 2 overall winners will also receive a 1 Month Subscription. If the overall winner is also the player that won the FFA portion of the event, the prize will go to the next player in line. CSN would like to thank ID Software for donating these prizes and for their continued support of the Cyber Sports Network.

We received the ability to pay for reheated version of things what we had for 10+ years, and we were even worked hard to make it happen in the early days of the closed ~~beta~~ alpha.

Don't be greedy! We already got more than what anybody could ask for:D

I'm sure that this wasn't something that id was seeking out, but rather a request from some of the QL fanboys on TL. You could probably get the same thing, if you ran your own tournament.

OMG, how stupid you all are. It's 1 month because it's rare and exclusive. How many of you have exactly one month membership? Every noob can buy 1 year, but how about 1 month? It actually cannot be bought for any money, so it's really very special and valuable prize. And I'm jealous and even a little bit angry that id offers such precious reward for SC2 players, but give only some oversized checks for quakers at QCons.

I sense a little sarcasm in your reply.

Anyhow, I think vedic hit the nail on the head here. I'm sure they would give these out on a regular basis if tournament organisers simply asked for them. OK so its only a month, but it's something.

And one month is enough time to decide weather you would actually like to purchase a full premium/pro account or not. It's pointless giving out one year subscription to sc2 players who won't ever use it. It makes sense when you actually give it some thought.

Give them a month to see if they like it or not. If not, fu.

But I do think a one year pro subsriptions should be considered as prizes for some tournaments. But that's upto tournament admins / #quakelive to arrange.

They did give me some one year one's but this first cup was sort of a test. If all goes well I'll put up the big one's for the next cup.

what's wrong with sc2 players getting into QL? That would be a good thing. What they're doing IS okay.

I don't know shit about sc2 except it takes alot of skill and strategy to play, and I should think alot of sc2 players feel the same about quake...

Most will drop out after realizing that they need to practice 2 years to get on a decent level in quake (as a rts player with some brains and talent).

I don't think that you can get 1200+ elo in duel within a few months if starting from scratch. Would be interesting to know what the average elo of active players is atm though.

1 month is a perfect prize, it gives them just enough time to either become familiar with the maps/games and buy a year sub, or enough time to let them know its not for them. there's no use in giving a 1 year for someone who's not going to enjoy the game after a few weeks.

If you look at the bracket those were the top 8 that made it out of the QL FFA rounds and into the sc2 bracket.

They received premium tokens and it went great and we plan on running another one.
