After a long night of CPM action the Kenya Maps Cup is over. However, when the dust settled, only one remained victorious. We had some great, entertaining games, but experienced also a few difficulties. The brackets were shit, one of the admins was cheating and the servers were lagging. Quite a few upsets were seen, as the Bulgarian powerhouses wuxia and Nzr0 shared the 5th place and LuGia was knocked out in just 4 maps.
1st place: rokky
2nd place: gaiia
3rd place: Terifire
4th place: moonsh1ne
5th place: wuxia / Nzr0
7th place: Persepolis / 34
9th place: has3 / LaNcER / HellTiger / lisk
13th place: VitunLuGia / Sylver_ / sjck / biacz
Rokky played a solid game throughout the tournament and deserved the gold medal. The accused wallhacker gaiia came in to the finals from the Lower Bracket, as he had been defeated in the 2nd round by Terifire. The couple met again in the semi-final, and this time gaiia came out on top. The finals were supposed to be Bo5 with rokky starting with a 1:0 lead, but because it was so late and the KGB was watching, we decided to play it in Best-of-Three format instead.
The Finals started with rokkys mappick akumacpm1a. After some pretty convincing control (18 RAs compared to gaiias 4..) he defeated gaiia with a 12 to 5 score, while gaiia couldn't do much about it. 1:0 for rokky and he had the momentum going in to the 2nd map of the finals.
Up next was gaiias mappick industrial. On this map the armors were spread amongst more evenly amongst the combatants, with gaiia grabbing slightly more of the precious ones. The scores, however, did not reflect the gap between the players all that well. With a 65% RG gaiia took the win 21 to 5 and had good momentum going in to the final game, which was to be picked by rokky. The scores were tied at 1:1.
His choice was eizdm4-b15, a map that was probably one of the most popular ones in the tournament. Looking purely at the armor and health pickups and weapon accuracies, it's hard to tell which came out on top. Rokky got more YAs and MHs and shot RG with the better hit percentage, and gaiia took more RAs and GAs while boasting better accuracies on all the other weapons. The match was tight until the very last seconds. Rokky was overall the better player and dealt more damage as a result of a few successful ambushes and some nice rails. The Finn had to rely on +back and lucky spawnkills which did not turn out very well for him. Rokky took the map 10 to 9 and thus winning the finals 2:1.Congratulations to rokky!
I would like to thank all of the participants and the spectators for taking part. Special thanks go to Level Up TV and the shoutcasters nVc, Drexciyian and nekon, HellTiger, blaze and myT.
After realizing how rewarding hosting a cup can be, we will definitely host more CPM cups in the future, so stay tuned!
