I remember when i was a kid, i was playing a game with an electronic japaness watch, the aim was to put the watch in chrono mode, and to start and stop it as fast as possible, my best score was 9ms iirc :)

Also, just because they didn't include mouse click latency (hard to measure btw) that doesn't mean GPU and CPU delays are in nanoseconds.

I'm pretty sure he G7 (looks like it's what they used) has a very low click latency anyway. Also, they did not need to click when they used a camera while simply moving around with the mouse.

Mouse clicks is just another data like a mouse movement so click latency is also decreased with usb port overclocking.

some ppl says that if you OC to 1000hz a wmo then the mouse click will have more delay ...

Honestly; everyone picks up what the important pieces of equipment are (good monitor/wired connection/stable FPS/decent input devices) when reading a forum like this for a little while.

Top players have shown time and again that you don't need the very latest equipment or the highest usb rate to play exceptionally well. As long as your equipment is comfortable for you, and you have experimented a bit to find out there isn't anything obviously lacking with it, 99.99% of the time there is a bigger deficit in your playing threshold than some ms delay somewhere: you.

If you follow this article to the letter, move to the same city as the server you frequent and take every measure possible to minimise latency; will it make you better than toxjq? No.

If the time you spent "minimising latency" were to be spent practising, your game would probably improve more than messing around with all of these essentially irrelevant matters.

Waste of time, imo.

This isn't about minimising latency (as far as I'm concerned), rather about understanding it.

I just thought this was interesting because of the piles of bollocks you can read everywhere on the subject. Such as people saying that v-sync + triple buffering = no input lag (there was a popular article that spread this retarded rumour not too long ago). They dare mention the fact that some game engines have more delay than others too, hence it's not just about having the best hardware (often when you go on a particular game forum and you dare mention it you'll just get something like "noob get a proper pc it's working fine here lol" type of reply)

Also, I read the part about about the monitors before all the rest (that's how I found the article) because it explains things much better than anywhere else and the difference between LCDs and CRTs.

It's not like I didn't know all of this, just that it's a rather decent summary.

The most interesting is that I now know another reason why more fps makes games feel more responsive.

But yeah, playing with what you're comfortable with is the most important thing. Though it's often usefull to know these things, in case something changes in your hardware/software setup that could alter you "comfortable" setup.

For instance, Windows 7 had a weird delay caused by core parking for me, not that it made me a crap player, but gaming no longer felt "comfortable", something was off compared to when I was running XP.

So it's still handy to know some technical stuff.
