This movie was made to promote the IRC-channel called #cpmpickup and ProMode in general. On #cpmpickup you can add to various gametypes, such as NTF, TDM, CTF, 2v2, CTFS, and more. All what you need is an IRC-client (i.g. mIRC), the correct version of Quake 3 (1.32), CPMA mod, CPMA Mappack and a few other maps.

It's consistent, which is what you want in this type of game, I don't see a reason to use any other system really. Or do you mean the actual values like the spread and all that? Seems ok as it is

Thanks for the input, I was referring to both, consistency and spread+values.

QL devs are probably going to revamp SG and I think cpm-ish spread needs to be taken into consideration. QL lacks consistency in comparison to cpma.

as soon as the enemy is at about shaft range, you should start using mg rather than sg, because even the nerfed cpm mg makes more damage then.

CPM(A) requires less skill because the increased movement speed and instant weapon switch allows you to get out of situations you get punished for in regular paced games.

The CPM community love that fascinating insight in their game, most of them are failed OSP players who moved onto it under the guise that its better when the aforementioned aspect makes them fell better because its a less technical game.

The community loves to hear this about their game too.
Fortunately I can deal with all 17!

IRC...i realize that's what keeps the various Quakes alive, but at the same time i hate it because it must seem weird to any new player. I've been abroad since March last year, which basically means shitty Internet and no IRC, and it's been a pain to follow the QW tournaments because the coverage (results, announcement of games etc) for people who are not on IRC is virtually non-existant.

More web and less IRC please!

Well as i don't have a flatrate kind of connection down here in South Africa i wouldn't idle on IRC as i did before anyway. With the webchat i end up timing out and have to reconnect all the time (and manually have to /join all channels).

What i wanted to say with my first post is that there could probably be a more user friendly way of following the games for NEW (aswell as seasoned) players and that i got a taste of the IRC-less life down here.

You really bought into their PR bullshit lock stock didn't you? Quality (re-used, re-issued) content from the same mod devs you've just slagged off, most of whom are only now on payroll because id killed their previous user bases off? (I would be myself had I not turned the opportunity down.)

And seriously, which part of this all-new unified community did I miss? I see the same 17 people that were playing osp now playing QL, and the same 13 people playing still cpm that were playing it beforehand... Other than several months of (brief, queue-laden) excitement and wishful thinking, QL has amounted to absolutely nothing. Except now a small proportion of those 17 people that were playing osp are now paying for the privilege of doing so, rather than doing it for free... The leagues are the same, the paid competitions are hardly changed year on year, and mainstream Quake 3 is still stone dead compared to every other major game on the circuit.

Been a bit like that myself - everything I play feels kinda watered down since. A few diamonds in the rough from time to time - Mirror's Edge was surprisingly good for example, but everything else just seems recycledand dumber.

Tennis is more skilled than badminton, and badminton only has 17 players, who themselves are failed tennis players. They should just play tennis.

It wouldn't matter if they did because their terrible at net based court games. so basically they would add nothing to the scene in my opinion. but they should play tennis anyway, because it's more skilled. It doesn't matter if their untouchable in badminton, and enjoy it more than any other sport. tennis is more "skilled".
