yeah at release and people looked into it, there was a public discussion about it and in the end google took it out. now the "concerns" are about search suggestions, error reporting...
sure i dont look at the code, but as i said, there is an active group of people who actually do because they mod the whole thing...

for the average user, the addons are a big risk, they usually get installed without a second thought and they can spy on you just like the actual browser could. chrome at least tells you what the data the addon want to read

If you continue to use the closed-source chrome you can't know. Trust is the only option. So as google is known to secretly invade your privacy (see below) I can't trust them.

You make a good point, trusting other pieces of software isn't all that easy either.
I trust plug-ins like FF's where the code is available only because it's almost guranteed some decent programmers will look into it or have looked into it. I myself couldn't even tell if something illicit is happening because I can't code beyond beginner level. So I can never be sure. All I can do is think about how trustworthy a source is.

I just want to point out another thing that google did with 'street view'. Against massive public skepticism concerning that project google said they only take pictures which could be altered or deleted if anything personal was pictured and did it anyways. But they secretly scanned for wireless networks! WTF. After this fact went public they said they will delete the data. Some weeks ago I heard the wireless network data is still available freely at least for some parts of the world. Again, wtf.

Then they log everything you do on their search engine. Then there is censorship. Google really doesn't give a crap about your privacy or rights.

A few days ago I heard something even more worrying: google will work together with the CIA on some project. If your spider sense doesn't tingle like crazy at that point I dunno :p

I made a cynic joke about google not being trustworthy in regards to personal privacy. I think there is enough evidence to back that joke up...

Regarding invasion of privacy, I don't like it as a whole. I do not like that data about my surf habits, searches and so on might get stored. Google could respect our privacy and store these things anonymised. They could think about those concerns beforehand. They could stop pioneering in the field of stealth data aquisition for the sole purpose (or not?) of making even more money they already make. Why stop at that? There's always another moral barrier to get out of the way to make even more!

in fact, chrome is much better suited for QL than FF. Firefox addons are run in the same process as the browser, and addons for Chrome are working in separate processes.

So far, I had much better QL experience under chrome.

Since the last major update, FF plugins run in a separate process. So....yeah.

Installed FF version 3.6.8, ran QL - and alas, it is still run in the same process as rest of the browser.

So chrome > * still.

FF4 beta runs it in another process. Or you can just switch dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to true in about:config to get the same behavior in FF 3.6.8

I read on another thread this is because iD is a business and not a charity organisation. Once they get the subscription and ad revenue, they will finally be able to deliver a bug-free game with original content, but not before. Apparently this is normal business practice.
