Upsides and downsides to it to be honest.

The music industry got right royally ass-fucked (mainly it's own fault for charging what they did anyway), so artists don't make jack from record sales, and only really touring/royalties now. So that will make life slightly easier. Films don't really have the problem now anyway because the quality's usually shit

The downsides? Pretty much everything else. Retarded bill to be honest. People will always find a way around it and cummon, it's not hard to just go to a wi-fi hotspot, use someone else's wireless connection or any manner of other things to download.

Yeah but that's mainly the bigger companies that mute the music. Of which usually they have official version of the music on their own youtube page anyway, and if they don't, it'll be on spotify or whatever.

It's the smaller music acts that you can often find on youtube. Can't count the amount of times I can't get ahold of an album or track so I just record it off youtube with audacity.

Previously the media companies needed a court order to get someone's details/house address from the ISP. Now it's incumbent upon the ISP to comply in any way with their requests, and even police their own customers. The legislation actually stipulates that repeat offenders will have their internet connections disconnected. It means more attention will be paid to exactly what we're doing online, whether or not we're suspected of copyright infringement. The bill doesn't address the issue of open wifi hotspots.
