Though the highest probability is for thoose people to be in the top, anything can happen in a tourney like this. It's a collection of so many great players that all has the potential for fighting in top3 and higher.

And on lan, I don't think jibo is that far behind strenx (at least he wasn't in cpma). His percents may be lower, but he's not afraid of spamming. I've noticed strenx doesn't spam much - maybe its accuracy vanity or maybe it's just that he doesn't bother spamming corners cause his reactions are fast enough anyway.

Maybe, but on the other hand stermy almost never shows him aim off by playing other good people.

You should also somehow determine 2-nd place too! With SE, loser of the final is not necessarily 2-nd best (again, see QCon CTF as an example).

There are much better systems out there than double elimination at determining exactly where the players stand in terms of skill if that's what you want.

Great move leaving t4 out. I used to love it back in 2001-2003, but now that i've been playing QL again I really found it a depressing map compared to the other maps.
Allthough dm6 doesn't seem to good either, but I'm having trouble leaving it out since there are some great specialists on that map.

Because watching fast moving blurry objects is aesthetically unpleasing. I would also trade commentators to gtv chat in a heartbeat. It was one of the rare (if not the only) things that brought the community from all skill and experience levels together to interact and have fun.

Maybe waste is too harsh, but it could be so much better.

I myself don't watch Quake tournaments to admire the graphics.

It is not about graphics but about the visual representation as a whole. Put yourself on spectators shoes for a second; if you were about to watch the world cup final, would you pick small and blurry stream with shoutcast, over large and sharpe image with no shoutcast? For me it's a no brainer, in an activity where all the skill and beauty of it can only be appreciated by seeing it, the visual representation is always priority.

Well only reason I could think of, that would make syncerror say that GTV is not pushing esports forward, is ESL's business model that is investing a lot in commercial streaming. Infact, if I were running ESL, I would try to lobby id NOT to release GTV in exchange for pushing Quakelive.Basically every competitive ladder and league would benefit from having a GTV, except ESL.

Not to mention that for id, GTV is the best place to sell ads. Nobody is going to watch ads when they are playing and at the stream they are unreadable in-game, but in GTV people are not as focused to the game and spend lot of time staring waiting rooms and empty maps between matches.

I don't think there ever going to be the same GTV as in Q3. IMO, if there will be anything GTV-like at some point, it will have shoutcasting support embedded. And I don't see how it may change or affect ESL business model (it will be like - free users get to watch shitty stream, and gtv is for premium only).

It would be pretty sad if everyone who wanted could not run a GTV in their games. That would make the game, that was suppose to bring life in to DM scene, less accessible for community activities than it's predecessor almost 10 years ago.

Cause I think in it he does say he think ESL is working against gtv.

If I would want to say, that I think ESL is actively working against GTV, I would just say it. Honestly, I dont think they are business savvy enough to do it.

Why I said, that I would do it, was to illustrate that if they didnt execute their business plan half-assed, they should and would be actually working against the community.

Right now we just have a premier league that is not working for the goals, that are best for the community as a whole, namely GTV, because it would hurt their business. If we had premier league that would push openly and aggressively for GTV, I'm fairly positive we would already have it or it would be high in id's priority list.

Because as far as I can tell, id is business savvy enough, to concentrate their ressources on where they earn their money: finalizing rage.
And I don't think id cares much about what ESL has to say about that. So, if might actually, be smart for the ESL, as the smaller company to accept what they get in a friendly cooperation, rather than assume the part of the whiny kid. atm it looks like this: ESL needs id, id doesn't need ESL. Sure ESL helps a little with publicity, but not that much. The release of Rage, if it does well, will do tons more, even for QL.

So, I'm saying the earliest we are gonna see gtv is after rage is out. I would be happy to be proven wrong, though.

It's a fair doubt, but I do think while id is not putting much resources in to QL right now (hi zenimax), because they dont have to, they would be under a lot more pressure to do so, if there would be almost no tournaments for QL as nobody could spec them. We might still be using Q3+GTV.

And Of course it's smarter for ESL to hang back and not support the community in this, whether id would listen or not, as the current situation is boosting their business.

Carmac should have just said that then. It's a very admirable stance to take, when you think that GTV would potentially not only bring ESL more competition, it could also harm your tournaments prestige if other tournaments were showing the most important matches at GTV, and your stream services business to other tournaments like dreamhack could take a dive. Certainly it would not be as hot possibility for growth as it may be now.

That said, if what you are saying is ESL's official stance on GTV, it puts the "not pushing esports forward" stance of id to a whole new light. Basically it would mean, that QL team is either incompetent or lieing. Neither of the options bode well for this games future

I can't speak for Carmac but I think he may be frustrated at your conspiracy theories since he is working very hard on producing this year's Masters and doing as much as possible to make Quake Live successful

Personally I haven't heard anything about GTV (except for a little bit at the beginning I have had little involvement with the QL stuff in the company) but personally I am sure that it will come when id are ready (along with custom maps and private servers)

Disclaimer: What I said is not official, but is just as far as I know from my involvement. When people misunderstood our announcement of not having HLTV/STV for some matches that were on ESL TV to mean we were getting rid of HLTV/STV, much of the same questions arose.

At the moment GTV (in general) is best for spectators, but offers almost nothing to sponsors. Stream is OK for spectators but offers lots to sponsors. So stream wins. Without sponsors, we do not have eSports, just competitive gaming.

I think id (and valve, and blizzard) of all companies should be able to improve GTV and make it attractive to sponsors. We already have ingame adverts, we just need to be able to customise them, and of course being able to pipe a shoutcast into the game would be awesome, or even the video stream itself, PiP

I agree with your assesment on these two broadcasting options, but in my opinion competitive gaming (and it's terms) has to come first, especially for the developer of said game. If esports can stem out of that without trying to take over, then I'm happy for the ones involved in it.

See, this is what bothers me with the whole GTV ordeal. Everyone "involved" is dancing around the issue without giving clear answers, especially id. It's like a bad smell from the cellar; you dont know if it's a dead rat or a squirrel or what. Only thing you can be sure is that there is something rotten in it.

But there is a chance to prove me wrong here when it comes to ESL, as a project manager you could surely give an official and clear answer in writing for the community and for id software.

id need to develop GTV with integrated VOIP. admins (the casters/people hosting the GTV) would be the only ones with the privileges to use it.

So selected games on the gtv would have the wonderful 2gd and joe casting, while the others would be just like q3 gtv. a little audio wouldn't take much more bandwidth than normal gtv would it? ;(

ESL TV always has a free stream that you can easily watch without any costs and that is watchable and after a few shows hours watching you can still decide if you want to support us and ESL TV by buying in for the Premium Stream of if you prefer to use the free stream.
