So, any of you have any tips for a newbie, or should I accept that this is not a game for me to play and just look at the pretty pictures?

Not only that but generally everyone in a pub isn't very good. I found it amazing that I could join any given pub when I first started playing and be on top. Granted it does play like a simpler quake though. :)

I find it fun now that I have a good computer. Although the netcode is weird and different servers make it run differently which is very annoying.

Honestly TF2 is one of the most frustrating games when you first play it, NOTHING is explained.

I can't even imagine what it would be like being new to it now, you basically have to read changelogs to get anything explained in the game. If I joined a game and suddenly a big sign over my head saying "bonk" appeared and I couldn't move I'd probably have no fucking idea why.

To answer your question though, the scout has a bat that lets him hit a baseball, if it hits someone it stuns them (and a big comic book style "BONK!" appears above their head)

Yeah, it disables double jump though and the person bonked takes 50% less damage so basically nobody uses it now anyway.

well i had the game for almost a year and never played the spy, but i gotta say it's pretty fun at times.

OP is a troll. The guy is just asking for some tips. The tf2 guy actually seems smarter than the OP.
