believe it or not. the scariest movie for me was IT movie adaption from the book of Stephen King.

Obviously I am too old now but it still sends chills down my spine because of the fright it gave me as a kid. Oh and disregard the ending, that was retarded.

Didnt see the movie, but in the book, the kids had to have sex in a sewer to destroy ancient evil...nothing retarded about that =]

The shining is a bit crap because you can't figure out what's going on in the guy's head (unless you're a tripping psycho). All this works in the novel only.

I think when producers created part II, they made big commercials based on the success of first movie, and, because they were not able to add something really new, they failed. Then, because the second movie was considered more of a comedy than a horror fest, they decided to go the new artificial path they created, for the please of the public. Else they would have risk total failure with 3rd movie. Like Lucas fucked up Star Wars back in '83 when he make Return Of The Jedi. First Star Wars was good, innovative and all the shit, second, The Empire Strikes Back is the part on the dark side, the best of all, imo, then the third part, because Lucas found out public liked a lot comic scenes in Star Wars and wasn't able to come with smth new, he fucked it up with too much comics in.

no idea what you mean by today's standard of horror. Aside from a handful of movies such as Ju-on1/2, ringu, Blair witch, horror films today are all about titillation and are not scary in the slightest

i guess what he means is,
in 1920 people got scared when they watched the mummy, today we can only laugh at that.
in 1980 people got scared by films like the shining.
alltho the film is scary when you think about it a bit, its just not the kind of horror film that gets produced today, and most people won't get scared when they watch it.

alltho the horror movies of today mostly rely on soundeffects, music and funny movement. it does send a shiver down my spine.

sometimes it gets pathetic tho.
in the first grudge movie, theres always this tension building music, sarah michelle gellar going 'hello, is someone there?' and weird camera angles, and in 90% of the cases, its a cat or something. just stupid.

yeah, pretty much sums it up. today's movies are much more relying on technological possibilities, less on good acting and a good script which was the only way to get a good movie back in the days, sort of. half of today's horror is probably just teasing/showing of incredibly violent things. meh.

to me even the ancient classics like Frankenstein and Dracula are more frightening and atmospheric than the likes of that sarah michelle gellar movie. When watching a film like that all i think about is and how bad and cliched the acting is and my mind wanders into thinking about how badly i want to fuck the actress , nothing wrong with that if that's what your after, but its not horror. There is no immersion and so zero tension or suspense.

Really though age has nothing to do with it, films like Vampyr(1932) and Un chien andalou (1929) are far more dark and shocking and push the boundaries more than anything that has come out of hollywood for the past 20 years or so

All these stephen King movie adaptions brought me back to the first time I read and hunted for the Dark Tower series...

His words but also mine, the series are his "Magnum Opus" allright. Now for a movie, I doubt it would be very scary, but if pulled off right (Which would be HARD), it would be a great movie indeed, and looooooong obviously.

ugh they need to make a tv series out of it actually, with good acting. and proper screenwriting. So basically somewhere else out of America, they would just butcher it.

Edit: Actually it WOULD need to be American as the book itself is very american anyway... Guess someone who knows what he is doing then..

Have read neither but Marvel have been releasing a comic book adaption of the Dark Tower series for a while now.
