I haven't played any quake for like a year now, but I wanted to get back into the action.

I dont have a good graphics card now, and thought I could get an old one cheap of ebay. Q3 is fairly old and QL isnt terribly demanding on Hardw. from what i hear.

So what Graphics Card would you guys recommend? I have a P4 2,4 GHZ & 1 Gig ram on a biostar Board. It has to be AGP.

Theres just so much stuff out there, and I have no clue about those things anymore :-)

Radeon's X1600 wich was built in 2005 sounds good to me so far.

anything out in the last year or two with agp x8 will probably do the job well enough...

why dont u go look at any computer parts website, and see what agp cards they sell?

well im kinda worried if the hardware is "too new". Maybe there could be incompatibilities with the old Q3 Engine or something?

You should be fine, but the problem I'm currently having is driver issues.

I have a 7800GT, and I've yet to find GOOD working drivers that work in a 10 person Clan Arena match in QL without dropping FPS.

I have the same probs with my 6800GT. Everything's fine under Q3. But in QL CA my FPS drop heavily. Especially since the last update. If you've figured something out please let me know!

There is no hardware that is "too new". My video card hasn't been out for much over a month, and it runs Quakeworld, q2, q3 and q4 beautifully.

Try the older drivers, 81.98, etc.

The 80's are good ones.

I assume you mean official drivers? Have you tried tweaked ones? like NGO ones for instance.

dont know about quakelive, but i used to get 125 fps with it playing quake3.

nah, my buddy used to have one of those in his old PC, along with 512 mb ram and a celeron 800 mhz, and he couldn't get anywhere near 125 fps

I honestly see no reason to upgrade any half-decent graphics card in the near future. All hardware demanding games are ridiculously boring and don't offer anything new in terms of gameplay.

Exactly. My hardware is like 6 years old now (only the GFX-card is about 5) and I'm upgrading it in a few months. Also I won't go for the very latest hardware (like those overprized nvidia cards) and will stick to an ECO system. I won't pay more than 500-600�

XP 3500+ @ 2.3Ghz / 2Gb / 7600 GT
Q3 & QL at 125fps, no drops at all...
7600GT AGP 8x Leadtek is the best one imho :)
