Event: QCON'08

Starting July 31st, the QuakeUnity.com coverage team will be live on-site in Dallas providing voideo-on-demand high definition video and live audio of selected QuakeLive and ETQW tournament matches along with videos of all the major events happening at QuakeCon.

Former Radio iTG commentator

Django will be casting the matches along with various guests including

Slasher. All videos will be produced on-site at QuakeCon in 720p high definition and be made available for download and streaming via flash video very soon after they are shot. To reach the widest audience, multiple versions of each video will be available for download along with the option of choosing either a high quality h264 or a standard quality flash video stream. You can check out a sample video page here. Suggestions, comments, and questions are welcome. More details will be announced as the event gets closer.

you just gotta think, there's a reason streams have always been kind of a low quality image.
and the reason certainly isn't, that nobody has ever came up with the idea to try higher quality streams...

and they haven't even tested it to see what will happen when 500+people connect. they're just gonna fire this system up when qcon starts, and hope that is works.

The streaming I am talking about isn't live. It's h264 and standard quality flash video being sent from a streaming server to all of you (it allows users to skip ahead while not forcing you to download the entire video). We were discussing doing a LIVE video stream, but decided since we've had 0 experience doing something like that we would stick to what we are good at, producing videos for viewing later.

in all honesty, no offence or anything.

but normal event coverage isn't even properly working, how can expect something like this to work?

in the past, tournament organizers and coverage sites mostly werent capable of just writing the scores somewhere where people could see them. and now they're expected to upload whole movies?
i just don't see it happening.

edit:
oh but besides that, i think the idea is awesome having vods.
its been working great for the starcraft community, and i find it a shame that quake doesn't have anything like that, because a feature like that could really attract new players.
just look at www.gomtv.net

i'd really like to see it working out!

Most of the written coverage we will be doing will be non-tournament related topics (overview of the id events etc). We will be doing video interviews with the players and we will try to have news updates on the tournament, but we aren't doing nonstop dedicated written coverage of everything. We have a pretty good track record of getting videos up in a timely manner and our resources are much greater this year.

they have already said that a gtv would be put into place sometime in September and since the game is in beta still there is no reason for them to rush it in.

well because i got quake 3 of steam mine is in --> C:\Program Files\Steam\steamapps\common\quake 3 arena\cpma\demos

but i guess you should have - > C:\ProgramFiles/Quake III Arena/cpma/demos . oh and btw if you dont already know u need to make a folder called "demos" in cpma and then when you record demos or put demos in there it will show in the ingame menu as demos. :>

if u want to record demos when playing i use "cg_autoaction"6".

Miss the days when you could choose between GTV, Wolf-TV and the shoutcast. Watching it live is the over either stream or game relay is the only way to watch it IMO. VOD is rather boring, kinda like watching a soccer or baseball match that is 3 days old.
