I don't know anybody stupid enough to make a trip to China for some medals.. And the console games especially are going to have a really poor attendance thanks to them not being mainstream games, and thus having no sponsors interested in paying air tickets.

I dunno about NHL08 but in former NHL-games scoring especially took quite a bit of skill. What is random though is the injuries and occasional funny calls by refs.

If the quality of the band was to drop, or they changed to a style you didn't like then YEAH OF COURSE.

To a certain extent some of the quality has dropped (CPL etc) but there are more "bands" (well, there was a lull but it's coming back).

I'm just looking at the statement that things were better underground - things were different but to a certain extent, things are STILL underground. Look at all the nations that don't take it seriously yet. Look at the turnouts at BIG events - still pretty low and hasn't hit the levels that sponsors and businesses had expected it to.

But I think the future is bright...

Past the game choices (SC4 not even being out yet), the idea that players are expected to qualify and not receive any compensation (It's not like GGL would have payed them anyway) for traveling all the way to China is absolutely ridiculous. Once they get there and possibly win, they only get a medal which won't mean anything sense this will be the only year they do this and no prestige except self satisfaction is attached to it. Another major flaw in this is that the event is in October! 2 months after the Olympics, 2 months after all the camera and media have been kicked out by the government and 2 months after the focus is off of China that is not about the practices of its corrupt government. Hate to be harsh b/c I have met many nice people at GGL but the time has come, you reap what you sow. From horribly organized tournament to not paying out prize money, it all comes back to you, goodbye!
