yeah this amazes me, up until like 3 weeks ago i was in an area where i pinged 6 and 15 to the main servers played on in the u.s., now i moved and i cant get anything under 40 ping, usually around 50-60...and it really took me no adjustments at all, RL and PG are the only slightly noticeable differences

Prozac plays plenty but simply doesn't cut it, he practiced hard for cpl in 06 but his level only allowed him to get raped by zik.
He simply hasn't ever been anything in duel, but lives off his one mapwin against zero4.
There is really no surprise at all to see him play 2 classes below cypher and even krysa.

Just because Noctis and Cypher can beat Krysa, doesn't mean everyone else in Europe can.. This is just another example of a new schooler owning an old schooler.. Because of Quake 3's life span, people are rewritting the game's competitive history - and erasing the old names off the wall, which sucks for them.

I guess ZeRo4 has been getting beat a lot lately.. and didn't ProZaC say he would be the world champion? 4-5 years ago these guys were Quake gods, now they're not. ZeRo4 was the absolute best in the world years ago, now hes not even close.
Its not that the new schoolers are Quake gods themself, its just that Quake III Arena itself owns you and no one player will ever be The Best forever.

Everyone thought the game was dead after CPL Winter '06.. now the CPL's basically dead - not to mention Quake Live in addition to Quake III Arena. For anyone who ever thought they were the best, obviously they're not, or they definitely won't be for long.

This is evrything ok. Lets see what happend on LAN on ESWC. Its diffrent to be at home and play in peace or play on eswc where are alot of noise and people ---remember that. As for the new players. As i was watched demos from the new players sequence is : noctis , cypher ,av3k , krysa, , stalker, guard. As from the old players : cooller is big favorite ( if he train ) on last autumn he beat cypher like 24 - 1 ztn :D. , Czm , Jibo , Toxic , Fox , Zamuz ... But only one who can beat in my opinion czm on hub is noctis.

one thing I like to say is that in quake 3, a>b and b>c does not necessarily imply a>c, that why tournaments should be double elim instead of single (unfortunately eswc US qualifiers is not), and comparing performances from different times and also two extremely different mods (osp and cpma) is kinda pointless, I personally think the best 1v1 players quake 3 has seen so far would be fatal1ty, zero4, cooller, czm, fox, lexer and unkind in no particular order (minus fatal1ty who was one of the starters), and they all had their moments.[though again in my personal opinion cooller in cxg was teh l33t sh1t, that was god playing q3 himself, but he still lost to zero4 in a map :D] whether new school is better than old school we will see definitely in this eswc, definitely players like cypher, noctis, toxic, jibo, k1llsen, rapha, walter exist who on a given match/map probably can outplay even these greats, but cooller and czm both being the perfect mix of both kind of play-styles are definite favorites.

Cooller beat Cypher on ZTN twice. Thats it. The reason why the second game was 24-0 was because Cypher was so frusterated.

Cooller is practically unbeatable on ZTN (its the only map he beat czm in CPL Winter '06). In my honest opinion as a ESWC USA qualifier dueler and Quake III Arena history buff, I would be confident in Cypher's ability to beat Cooller on hub and pro-q3dm6.. maybe any other map for that matter

the first map in the final was the 24-0, i would not have posted it otherwise (and cypher chose to play ztn again)

cypher is better on hub, and he beat cooller on dm6 at the same asus

but cooller is clearly superior on ztn, and he's an absolute beast on nodm9/dm13(recent asus demos versus jibo)

the 5th map at eswc is going to be prot4, which favours cypher's aiming ability

you have to take into consideration, that cooller wasnt that enthusiastic to play at the end of the days but still did play and without practising too much!

at the cpl q3 time i read in an interview with jibo, saying that his skill doesnt come back as fast as coollers does. in his best days, jibo was able to beat cooller, maybe on one map and lose to him on the other two, but he was never better. just at the end and only through practising and caring about more, wich cooller didnt do. so if you count jibos name in the row with one of the gods name like czm, zero4, unkind, cooller, i cant take serious what you wrote.

even with zamuz its critical, just a bit, because imo he didnt play long enough to be really goddish. if he did, im sure he would have become something even more awesome, but he didnt.

cooller is one of tehhh q3 gods, respecting no one, never get nervous, can pull out things you have never seen in any game. i wouldnt be surprised if he'd show up at eswc08 out of nowhere and beating everyone into the gound. but i think he gave up his 02,03,04 skill to become a little arrogant, saying that he doesnt need to practise that much to be still top3 and lately that was just enough for him. he once said in an interview, that he cant remember how he played in these days.

prozac. he was god at tdm. he was surprisingly good at duell at one tourney. now i see someone who doesnt have an idea how to beat his opponent, paired with a slow hand and no clue where his enemy could be. but now, ztn games vs cypher are over too and there he didnt look that bad. nearly good and there is some time left, so maybe he can get it.

zero4. how did he lose to cooller at the showmatch at e3 (or wherever that one was). it was some invited show tourney with 3 players or 2? dont remember, just remember the ztn game where he lost horrible. that was the first official match after he went inactive and that wasnt too long ago that time. so he was just all about practising, practising, practising? dunno. nowdays he gets owned by the new feeling cpma offers through 72fps gameplay, which is imo more precise, not so clumsy like 125fps.

whatch the style of players like cypher, av3k or forever. thats teh shit. didnt see that much control over the physics back in the days. look at prozacs style from today as a style of one of the oldschoolers. but maybe the reason is, that those player are all coming from q4, which is much faster than q3. maybe thats the reason. but there is more to them despite their crazy mouseskill. they are thinking when playing. cyper got some routine by now, but he started the same way. av3k and forever are cyphers 2 or 3 months ago.

I didn't mean it like that, I was responding to this idea of the new school being better than the old...Which by looking at the most recent major q3 event that clearly isn't true judging by the top3...I think all 3 of them were capable of winning the tournament, just czm was on top of his game.

Saying that prozac is shit is disrespectfull. BUT, even if you haven't his achievements, you sure still can judge his lvl. For example if you say that krysa is (actually) definitely better than him at duel (at least online), no ones can blame you for that, and you would probably be right :-).

Anyway, here is my short opinion (yep random ESR user's opinion) about the 1on1 q3 scene :

cooller and czm are the best, Jibo comes 3rd. Both never really quitted q3 (cooller played some q4 but always had q3 in his heart; czm had some - short ? - inactive periods but never played anything than q3 competitively).
Cooller is the best of all times on ztn, czm is hub's god. Jibo is probably one of the most complete (if not the most complet) TDM player, also a very polyvalent player. Jibo is better at LANs.

ZeRo4's comeback is funny, I have nothing against him, but in my eyes he seems like an arrogant guy more than anything else. Actually he his just average compared to all the q3 skilled duelers (czm would rape him, and he has lost against rapha etc). But I dunno, maybe he needs some more months of practice ?

proZaC is not that good at duel, he is definitely better at TDM, but according to his last matches, there are loads of better tdm players right here (at least online). So, he doesn't seem as talented as before, because every newschoolers have improved hard.

Should I remind you about CPL Nordic, which was in December 2006, and what happened there? Do you recall Z4muZ - Jibo games and the one specially, on ztn? The one where Z4muZ totally owned Jibo scoring 15:0. The other games were really close between them. Z4muZ lost grand final that day mostly because he had huge hangover (I'm not excusing him). However I DO think Z4muZ is overall better player than Jibo and he's more talented as well. He played so amazingly well even after 3 years of break.

Then there was CPL Championship Finals: 18:11 (hub), 6:4 (ztn) both for Jibo, this time. But how much Z4muZ actually played hub? 20 games in his life? 30? If he trained a lot he would be a beast, just like Cooller back in his prime. Z4muZ had always potential to be THE very best 1v1 Q3 player. I guess, he didn't care that much back then.

And about fox, just two words: CPL Italy. Enough I guess.

They ARE world class players, one of the best Q3 ever had and ever will. Not adding them to your 'list' is imo not right :]
