foobar2000 is the media player firefox :D

Looks very nice. I mainly use Winamp for internet radio and streamed TV services though.

I just replaced my old foobar2000 to 0.9.5 beta 2.
After trying that for a while, I'm thinking about switching to Winamp =(

i used winamp a long time before i switched to foobar, and i still use it for various things like streams.

i dont really care how long it takes to scan through my music folder, thats sure as hell not the reason why i switched, the only reason i had is that i could make look exactly like how i wanted to without knowing anything about skinning or such stuff, i wouldnt know how to make a winamp skin that deforms the whole program.

Also i dont care what other ppl use, everyone should use what he likes :)

The only feature i'd like to see is a possibility to display albums in the playlist like folders in explorer, with a little "+" to expand an album and see each track.

Cba to find a particular song / album when i've got 1000+ songs in my playlist.

And no, i won't use the media library, i've never get used to it. Too fat.

I mean the overall window is way too big, and you can't reduce it to a "mini mode". I prefer the playlist editor, which can be toggle to mini size by double clicking it and it doesn't have a zillion feature i don't care about.

And it displays a very useful seeker bar <3

foobar is very overrated, for the average person biggest waste of time ever when a stable version of winamp works just as well.

WinAmp <3. Wholly unconvinced by all arguments for other players. If my computer can run Crysis it can damn well run WinAmp; it's never crashed on me on any computer (I guess I'm either lucky or just not fucking things up, doesn't matter), and it's got all features I need and don't need but think are cool anyway.

Not saying other players are useless or that WinAmp works best for everyone, just saying some players *cough*FOOBAR*cough* have a very annoying fanbase*; think door-knocking religious fanatics. Use what you like, all happy?

honestly winamp never crashed at all in my pc since its realeases even if my pc is locked up or frikin burning out the music still plays and the tracks can be changed lol xD

you can make winamp NOT read all tags yadda yadda so adding 40 gigs of music takes about 10 seconds

Strangely enough if you use the search function it also uses info from tags.

That's just ignorance speaking there. Foobar's tag reading/management functions are superior. The search function also being a lot faster, efficient and versatile (that's the original reason why I switched to foobar from Winamp).

PS: Winamp loads tags slower than foobar. And why would you want to NOT load tags?

PPS: How come every Winamp user refuses to even try other software open minded, I dunno any other software that makes its users so arrogant for no reason?

Winamp is far from instant, at worst it took me over 30 seconds for the search tool to finish searching.

er they do, just the majority doesn't want to spend ages fucking around with different configurations, or learning about plugins and a scripting language to get foobar looking decent with fancy features. It's a bullshit task for someone with a fair amount of computer experience let alone some average person who wants a player that will quickly add songs to a media library and let them drag and drop into a play list.

Winamp does exactly that.

Sure you can have fancy images and album art with foobar, but then you need to download it all, index it properly, make sure everything is well tagged and in some form of a semi-dececent file structure, and so on.

I do use foobar though, just for albums though with a small clean config that shows album art. Winamp is used for custom play lists, no matter the config I used for foobar it was always shit for a easy media library to play list. The most annoying thing is having to hold alt for changing orders and stuff.

oo the only thing I wish winamp had was a progress bar when it came to rescanning the media library, even though it takes a few seconds after the initial scan it's still done in the background where I can't tell if it's done or not

I do have to agree that foobar isn't the most user friendly application when you begin with it. If you don't need anything else but a simple play-function then foobar might not be for you.

In my experience Winamp acts a bit unexpectedly if you load user made plugins to it. If you want certain features out of it you need to prepare for random crashing which sometimes even needs a system reboot to fix (I have no idea why, but I couldn't hear a thing from any other app after Winamp had a round with my soundcard).

a good majority of downloadable configurations don't let you drag slections around on a playlist without having to hold alt I think it, alt/ctrl/shift

I've got some friends who got tired of Winamps bs-crashes and random clearing of playlists. They switched to foobar and they're using it with no plugins : > (And they like it)

Maybe i'm lucky, but i've been using winamp for ages and got so few crashes that it's unsignificant. Never had that playlist bug.

I'm a winamp user and I'm always trying new stuff out. I'm also not afraid of heavy configuration (I use blackbox as my shell) but I don't use foobar because winamp does exactly what I want in a few clicks. Not everybody downloads absolutely every fucking song to hit the internet. Shockingly there were some of us who gave an almighty shrug when oink went down.

Don't get why people get so hung up on shit like this, why do you care what media player other people use anyway? It's like people who care about other people using firefox. I use it because it performs the job reasonably well (I say reasonably because in many ways it's a piece of fucking shit) and I couldn't honestly give a testicle what anyone else uses. The only time it's an issue is when they're family members, because it's me who has to clean the bullshit off their PC, aside from that, I don't care and neither should anyone else.

tried the new skin, but grrr, can't seem to remove the media liberary and yet have my playlist showing (well, it shows a little bit, but I wanna drag it more downwards)

but what new features are there? I saw the docking stuff, but is that it? felt kinda useless to me, doesn't work well with a playlist containing more than 5 songs.

i switched to foobar because it had a really good music organizer at the time like: freedb plugin (searches a database for album tags - i hate untagged music), mass tagger/file renamer (i hate inconsistent file naming - i like the plain old file structure: artist/album/artist - song.mp3), advanced sorting etc.

does winamp have more options now?

foobar also got a discogs plugin now which is even better.

Also if you open a mp3 by double clicking it, it ends up replacing stuff in your current foobar play list, annoying!!
