Same, but try to anticipate that a good player will dodge your usual placement so try a reverse psychology thing and aim somewhere a bit less predictable even it does not seem so logical at first.

If you're not 100% sure where you plan to aim (within reason) then there's no way the other guy will know.

Try and get the initial rocket out first so you're closer to launching the second one that is. In situations like that it's not uncommon for both players to die so little things like radius and getting your shot off a split second before CAN make a dif between life + death.

Though games are not usually won on such simple encounters as decent players always know where the enemy is and play far enough away most of the time to dodge with one hand. behind back.

investigate why you are missing, are you too slow with predicting, or predicting too long so your opponent already dodges the other way again? maybe try to predict more, or predict less and just shoot at where the model is in that very moment, fire at different times in your own dodging so it becomes harder to predict the time you launch your rockets, ...

use accel

I was trying the same for quite some time, but imo there's no need for accel if you have a sensitivity high enough to do a quick 180° turn without picking up the mouse (around 14cm/360° in my case), and I think I benefit more from the stability of the feel without accel than from that little extra edge of speed that comes with accel.

it might be quite fun to use, but it kinda sux compared to the hitscan weapons..

all depends on the situation/map.

its also probably the strongest weapon on hub, if you know what you are doing.

In 1v1: Focus your attention in fights to your opponents dodging patterns (it seems obvious but most people don't, they aim without even thinking about it). Think stuff like "He likes to hug walls" or "He likes moving to the left", and think about these things when taking out your rl.

In general: Where the above isn't an option there are general things which can help when using a rl. In strafe fights with someone on the same level as you, try not aiming to the left or right, but rather right at them (at their feet). Most people fake movement in strafe fights at a speed that by the time you've reacted to their movement and fired the rocket, they've just started moving in the opposite direction. Vs people with good doding, more often than not you will do better firing directly at their feet with the rocket launcher, because they end up strafing back into it. Obvious exceptions are fighting near walls and/or items (some people try to move towards items and stay away from walls, while others exploit this, because it's so expected, to get you to miss...a lot. Chances are if someone exploited it to dodge your first rocket they are going to do it again and again.).

When you feel very confident you know where your opponent is going to move, try aiming more at the knees than the feet. 100 damage rockets ftw. :p

The last (and probably most useful) thing I've picked up to help with rocket fights is pausing during a fight. Most strafe patterns are alligned so that the player changes direction the instant you fire the rocket. By waiting a fraction of a second you can see what direction they are _really_ planning on moving and fire the rocket accordingly.

tried to practice some of those things specificly back some time, but it really isnt as easy as its sounds, cause close rl fights are so hectic and i dont think about most action but rather do them by instinct

That's really what practicing is - backing away from instincts far enough that you have to (or rather - can) think about situations again, then practicing a certain way of thinking until it becomes your "new" instinct. When you've been playing for years it can be reaaalllly fucking hard to unlearn bad habits when you do them instinctively.

depends how close, I mean you shouldn't have to predict that much during close combat, it's when you start reaching mid that you need to predict more.

and go for direct rockets more, you'll be surprised how many you can actually hit.
