1.- If it is, there's work to be done on every aspect. I'd start playing lolca first, in order to polish aim, dodging, jumping and basic strats.
edit: Just to be clear, with your stats this will take months. Idea is pubstomping tier4 servers all the time.

2.- After you are done with that (beating heartless while playing with your feet), then you should jump on duel maps alone. Dm6 and ztn are good for that. With that you'll learn the maps, until the point of having that sense of where the opponent could be (for example after taking a teleporter), what you can do, the usual item runs and ofc the jumps themselves.
Then comes learning the spawns, what respawn points are possible on each position where you are at (at least the usual ones, like ztn mega and aero lower rocket area), knowing the best spots for each situation (like ztn pillar), the traps, dealing free damage from distance and what weapon to use in each part of the map.

While it may sound complex and difficult, these are only a part of the "duel rules". The idea of what I wrote is that it's not really needed to know everything at first, since with what I wrote it's possible to beat tons of players, just by being a mindless robot (repeating the same over and over) if you know how to deal damage and not get hit. Then you'll learn there are more factors to consider and after a while you'll think by yourself on what's best to do against each player.
Another problem is duel requires a ton of experience and practice, which is the reason I suck at it. If you are not willing to spend time on it then don't duel at all, and knowing games and especially quake duel are a complete waste of time, there's lots of reasons not to duel in first place. I wouldn't play quake if I were to be born again lol.

Playing CA or FFA only leads to bad habits.
Also, the majority of people playing those mods are really bad at dodging, therefore the accuracies youre hitting are very misleading.
Id recommend a noob to play some tdm to learn the basics of survival.

this is the main reason why i can't figure out what you mean when you say stuff like "played for months", "consistency" and so on.
I mean, how could you possibly hit a wall when not moving at all?

tier system and ql matchmaking won't stop him from getting stomped. and he won't learn much while being pounded to the ground with rockets on eery item. having a simmilar skill sparring partner will help him develop good positions and tactics he can use in matches with different people. so yes: absolutely correct.

You only have 3 days so of course you will still be getting owned, just keep practicing and work on your mechanics before you get deep into the mind games.

this is part of why superkoziol is right about having a sparring partner (or rather, a whole bunch of them)

if you're new/bad/whatever, you won't win games or even get much better by studying the absolute best way to play (i.e. imitating cypher/rapha/cooller/whoever)... you'll get better by playing people who are close to your level until they get boring, then finding better people and repeating

if you have no clue at all about duel, play it against some friends from other games until you know where you stand (since your elo and ql tier basically mean nothing)

once you know who you can beat and who you can't, you can play those same people repeatedly to learn from them. when you play new unfamiliar people, add them to the list: if they're close to your level, friend them and play them again. if they're way above or below, it might not be too useful.

at the same time, you can mix in things like ddk's theory video, twister's commentaries and so on....but you won't appreciate most of that until you reach a certain level

Without proper positioning, aim is nothing and vice versa. Hope that helps.

let them not discourage yourself, you can make up the years of quake, others have on their backs more easily, than if you had started 4 years ago, because these days you have much knowledge about dueling accessible, which was not the case a few years ago. (Thanks to the work of the community and youtube)
The videos of ddk are a very good start, because you can imagine how you can think about the game, or should be able to during games when you're more experienced, but for now there are the basics of duel on which you should pay attention.
If you want to be good at duel, don't waste your time playing other gametypes.
At first you should learn how to time two items (MH+RA) and remember the times during fights. You have to start right from the beginning with this, because remembering item times during fights is not an easy thing to do and you have to actively play to acquire that skill (also you should practice the duel math without playing: if you pick up mega at 3.44 you should just now that it will spawn at 4.19 without calculating it in your head - this will make everything easier).
So timing should be the skeleton around which you build up your entire game.
So focus on timing while playing. But when you watch your demos pay most attention on the way you dodge, because you can spare a lot of playing time, when you think about the best way of dodging; dodging is not just experience its also common sense. Pay a lot of attention to the range and if you use the right weapon for the right range.
You can play ca1on1 or duel warmup to acquire dodging and aim for duel, but I wouldn't play team-gametypes, because it won't improve your 1on1 skills as much as playing 1on1 gametypes; here is why: dodging against several enemies requires an other type of dodging than against just one.
Play people who are in your skill range, so that you will not lose hope. Maybe sometimes play against people who just stomp you - it motivated me big time when I first started.
And no you don't have to play yrs. and yrs. of quake to become good at duel.
Always try to think where to shoot or dodge, when you watch your demos (Cypher mentioned once, that he became so famous for his good rockets, because he thought much about it!!!)
And: I would start with dm6, because it has an easy map layout and you can just run MH+RA in the beginning. (Also the spawn layout is easy, take a look at: http://www.esreality.com/post/2219012/interac...alization/)
Besides timing, pay attention on the golden rule of positioning: place yourself between your enemy and the next big item to spawn, so that you can fall back onto it.

The reason quake is impopular is because of the very steep learning curve. Youre gonna get pwned the first 2-3 months, sorry its just like that. No one can teach you how to play. Sure you can learn some tricks and stuff but you cant learn how to think and really play by watching. If youre stuck at some point, like youre describing, try to analyze your demos and find out WHAT is hindering you from winning, for example out of control play then look at some pros when they play out of control or play a match and play out of control on purpose!

start with ffa.

It's a lot more fun to slowly get higher and higher in ffa's than it is to get owned over and over in 1v1.
If you can learn how to time and get possitions on items (when they spawn) in ffa you're all set to time good in duel as well.

Then try to duel again. Do notice that 1v1 is more structured than ffa so not all skills gained through ffa are usefull in 1v1 (mainly the idea that you can be hit in your back while you're aiming at someone is a bad idea to have in a duel :D).

If you then feel like you lack movement speed in the duels play a bit of ctf.
