Mobile technology will probably benefit from this far more than anything.

Each pixel is made up of 3 organic diodes (Red Green Blue,) which are active. This should give better contrast and black levels (shadows and dark surfaces). The response time is in a different league from LCD so ghosting should become a thing of the past. The only drawbacks would be the uncertainty of the lifetime of the diodes and that input lag will depend on the quality of the signal handling in the monitor (if they save money on this, then the monitors will still have similar input lag to todays monitors).

It's always amusing when someone has a 6990 or SLI GTX580 and a 4.5ghz i7 and only plays QL while complaining that every other game is too realistic/boring/slow. quake benefits a shitton more from faster refresh than modern games. cod63243 you can play on just about anything and not feel the difference.

I am guilty of this... Just upgraded GPU, opened MW3 ran around a map and went "Wow that's smooth!." Exited and fired up Quake.

I don't like the pics they produce, it looks really awesome indeed, but doesn't look natural to me.
I prefer the feel of the high quality (10bit non-led) IPS panels because it's kinda feels like looking at a piece of paper, and that's something I don't feel with OLEDS.
I won't say they have better pics than OLEDs because they obviously inferior, it's just my personal preference.

I'm waiting for something better/different.. perhaps if I could see a QD-LED. Maybe that's the one:)

You would be surprised the quality of the CRT monitors what you can buy for nothing nowadays.
For example, the 21" Eizo (Sony tube) I bought for 45€ (original price was above $1000) was used only once in a month in a factory by the accountant lady;)

Don't forget that all OLEDs released so far were not calibrated at all and were set up to look all shiny and WOAH SUPER DEEP CONTRAST.

The ones on phones are all like that too but it doesn't mean they can't look good like a CRT/high end IPS or anything.

OLED's are actually being used in high end phones like the iPhone 4 and Samsung SGS2. There are computer monitors for over $9000 aimed at the "proffesional" market.
We're still waiting for the "normal" priced OLED monitor for the masses, they taking too long imho. Probably a new and cheaper technology will come out before OLED's do. It's all about the price.

It's not about the actual burn in OMG, and it's also not about my skills..obviously.
What you don't understand is that when you have the the same image on the same spot for a long time (like a HUD of a game for a 6 hours long game session). The pixel there will degrade, and they degrade in a week... and you keep playing this game for 4-5 months and you have a serious problem.
Do you buy monitors in every 4-5 months?
I obviously understand that they won't literally burn into the screen like with the very first plasma TV's, but you will get color and uniformity inaccuracies and we still call that the "burn in effect"

If I turn on my monitor and leave it to show a certain image, lets take mona lisa for example.And I leave this image to be displayed non-stop without plugging off my monitor for weeks... then I would get a burn-in effect.Then even if I would be watching movies id still have a mona lisa shaded on my screen.Now do you realise how hard it is to get that burn-in!?You dont get that for playing a game on a daily basis for 2-3h you dont get a burn-in in such short time.. even if u extend ur game sessions like a korean addict to 12h you dont get that burn-in cause in the end of the day you will still plug it off...IT takes YEARS 1-2 min. to notice the shades!!!

If you buy a monitor in a store, you will have a warranty for a year or two depends..The manufacturer guarantees for it that it will not fail u in that time and warranty lasts for that time exactly because burn-in wont show sooner!!The BURN-IN is not covered exactly because of ABUSIVE manner, because it is your fault for neglitant handling...

I think you still don't understand that "screen burn in" not only equals with a permanent ghost image which is only the most severe case (btw, I used my "high Google skills" and linked the wiki for you).
"Screen burn in" also means luminance degradation, which can be measured in a single week, and when we are talking about OLEDs here (theoretically), it can happen on a single color channel only, since they are separate there.
If something is degrade in a week, it doesn't mean you will notice it with your eyes, but the effect is still permanent and cumulative.

Color accuracy and display uniformity with high-end professional monitors are not useless scientific measurements for sure (most of the clients are requested on-site display calibration because pre-calibration was not good enough), and I just wish to be that rich to be able to build hundreds of systems and networks just for fun, but I would certainly do;)

Get it now? OLED is even WORSE than Plasma on that regard so it definitely can't be used in computer monitors until they find a proper workaround. It has nothing to do with the lifespan of the monitor, of course they don't want to make something that lasts forever.

TLDR; version: there are two major problems with OLED : the burn-in (extremely problematic even for casual computer use) and the luminance degration (ie. the lifespan of the screen) which means the display colours will get worse over time faster than with other current technologies.

I don't think my CRT screen will last 10 more years. Any alternatives coming up "soon"?

Actually you can use it for gaming or console... because you would be playing games sized on full-screen lets say 16:9 to 16:9 now if I were to play 4:3, 12:9 , 14:9 etc. then I could get burn-in.Because the displayed image would be shrinked.. and those black bars ure mentioning, theire that unwanted static image!!You see ure giving me exactly the same reason im telling to ur friend kapca just that I turned around the example stating its mona lisa pic and ure still incapable of comprehending these things I said that on purpose just to see if anyone can figure out what I mean, obviously not.The reason these black bars come up is because now in "modern" days when we have DVB/t/c programs are most commonly broadcasted in 4:3 ratio so you have those bars... and then when you go watch ur movie which is again in other aspect ratio you have again different sized bars and if you were watching 4:3 for over 90% of the time.. it is obvious that you will notice it in 14:9 or smth else.

These are simply hacks claimed to be imperceptible to the human eyes, but not solutions to the image retention problems we are talking about here regarding to computer monitors.

I understand that manufacturers are claiming (marketing) that they solved every problems regarding "display burn in", and also think that plasma has an awesome picture btw, but whatever they say, using a plasma display as a computer monitor would be still pain in the ass, because they burn in no time, and I personally know two people who had this problem with new (2008ish) Panasonic and Samsung models.

nobody said anything about buying.. and im not promoting oleds.I am still on a crt monitor myself.All I said was I am excited about its arrival and would be prepared to change it with my current monitor.I only replied that every product has its lifetime.How we came to these huge conflicts about minor problem like burn-in phenomenon is still a mistery to me.I wouldnt be worryed about the screen itself but other things...

the argumentation on both sides is personal opinions, as in, there is no argumentation. you might find burn-in an insignificant problem, others do.
every plasma screen i've seen has ugly burn-in spots here or there. plasma is too susceptible to burn-in for me to consider it. argument over. why it happens? certain areas of screen are used for logos for all channels, etc. it doesn't matter, it just happens with time.
CRTs burn in is not that on the other hand, I have seen some burned-in CRTs, but rarely.
the only question is what is OLED technology closer to. ideally it should have zero burn-in.

There is nothing to prove, you fail at understanding what you read and you are trying to tell us that burn-in on Plasmas in a non-issue and that it won't be a problem on OLED when so far almost all sources say that burn-in is even worse on OLED than on Plasma (google OLED/AMOLED disadvantages).

When i read that it's common to cause problems with mobilephone displays, which use OLED-displays already, then this is where the discussion should be.
